Shatters the Mercedes-AMG GT Black’s previous record by 4.747 seconds

  • The Porsche was equipped with the Manthey Performance Kit that lent more aerodynamic efficiency.

  • The performance pack includes lighter wheels, aero-specific additions, track-optimised suspension, and race-ready brakes.

  • Powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine making 700PS and 750Nm.

There’s a new king of road-legal rides at the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany, and that’s the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. With test driver Lars Kern behind the wheel, the sportscar lapped the 20.8km circuit in just 6:43.300 minutes, smashing the previous record of 6:48.047 minutes set by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black by 4.747 seconds.

Yes, the AMG GT Black did post a lap of 6:43.616 minutes, but it was on the shorter 20.6km circuit.

This 911 GT2 RS was fitted with the Manthey Performance Kit that helped the sportscar’s chassis, brakes, and aerodynamic efficiency. The lighter magnesium 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels shed about 11.4kg of weight. Other gains thanks to the kit included additional flaps on the front spoiler, a carbon underbody, and additional air-guiding elements around the front wheels. The performance package added a new rear spoiler, a modified diffuser, and aero discs on the rear wheels.

All this helped increase the aerodynamic downforce from 49kg to 70kg at 200 kmph up front. At the rear, the same went up from 93kg to 200kg.

The 911 GT2 RS also comes with track-optimised coilover suspension, with three different settings for the front shocks and four at the rear. Stopping power has been enhanced by special racing brake pads, with steel-encased brake lines for more direct pedal feedback. Keeping the 911 GT2 RS on the road is a set of road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres.

Of course, there’s the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that makes a staggering 700PS and 750Nm of torque, making it the most powerful road-legal 911 in history. It is paired with a 7-speed DCT that sends power to the rear wheels.

This feat marks the second Nurburgring record that Porsche has recently shattered. The first was when the upcoming performance-focused Cayenne Coupe variant broke the production-SUV record at the Green Hell. We can’t wait for what Porsche may have trained its sights on next.
