It seems weird that a company like Porsche that is known to make sports cars also makes a four-door family vehicle like the Panamera. Your opinion on the Panamera may vary, but it lets Porsche tap into a different market space altogether. This is because it offers performance like all Porsche cars but also is a practical daily driver because of its saloon body style. It is with this reason that the Panamera family has kept on growing over the years. Now, Porsche has added another member to the Panamera range and it is called the Panamera Sport Turismo.
The Panamera Sport Turismo is an all-new model and will make its world premiere at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in a few days. The Panamera Sport Turismo is designed unlike any other Panamera to offer everyday usability and flexibility. To that end, it has been designed as a wagon and has a large tailgate and 4+1 seating capacity.
The Panamera Sport Turismo has all the technological bells and whistles one can opt for in the regular Panamera. These include Porsche advanced cockpit, rear axle steering, traction management system and adaptive air suspension. The Panamera Sport Turismo is 5,049mm long, 1,937mm wide and 1,428mm high. It has a wheelbase of 2,950mm.
The Panamera Sport Turismo has an adaptive spoiler on the roof of the car. This spoiler provides 50kg of additional downforce on the rear axle to help the car go fast in a straight line. The spoiler will not deploy until you are either doing speeds in excess of 170kmph or are in Sport/Sport Plus modes where it will deploy from 90kmph upward.
The Panamera Sport Turismo will be available in the regular four-seat configuration with electronically adjustable individual seats at the back. Since it is a wagon, the cargo capacity in the Sport Turismo is 520 litres, up 20 litres from the standard Panamera. The Panamera Sport Turismo Hybrid will offer 425 litres of boot space. The rear seats can be tumbled down to increase storage space to 1,390 litres, which is 50 litres up from the standard car. The hybrid version will offer 1,295 litres of boot space with rear seats down.
You can spec the Panamera Sport Turismo's boot with a luggage compartment management system. This will get you two integrated rails in the loading floor, four lashing points and partition net in the Panamera Sport Turismo, among other things. A 230V electrical socket can also be had in the car's boot, for extra price, of course.
The Panamera Sport Turismo will be available with the engines of the regular Panamera saloon. The Panamera Sport Turismo is headed for Europe launch in October 2017, followed by other markets. Expect it come to India no earlier than 2018.
