Looking for a luxurious sedan which helps you make a bolder statement than the German sedans? Look no further. Porsche has launched the second generation Panamera Turbo at a starting price of Rs 1.93 crore (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Also, if you have a bit more cash lying around and are looking for more opulence, try the Panamera Turbo Executive which is longer and comes with more luxury. The Executive is priced at Rs 2.05 crore (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The Panamera will lock horns with the likes of Maserati Quattroporte GTS, Audi RS7 and the Mercedes-AMG S63 in the country.
At the heart of this Porsche is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which gives the car 550PS of power from 5750 to 6000rpm and 770Nm of torque from 1960 to 4500rpm. This, mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission helps the car reach 100 kmph from a standstill in just 3.8 seconds. But, what if you want to go faster? Porsche, as an optional extra, will equip your Panamera with a Sport Chrono package which will give you the power of launch control. As a result, you will be a whole 0.2 seconds faster than before. The Executive, on the other hand, is 0.1 second slower in the 0-100kmph sprint than the Turbo. Also, the Porsche Panamera is a practical car to run. It returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 13.7kmpl on the highways and 7.7kmpl in the city, provided you tap the throttle gently. It gets 20-inch wheels as standard.
But a fast car needs to be clever too. And the Porsche Panamera Turbo has that covered as well. The sports sedan comes with technologies like rear wheel steering and InnoDrive. The rear-wheel- drive steering turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to that of the front when the car is going slow and turns them in the same direction as that of the front when the car is going fast. This virtually alters the wheelbase of the car giving it a shorter turning radius at low speeds and more stability at high speeds. But, like the Sport Chrono package, this is an optional extra.
The InnoDrive is another interesting feature of the sedan. It works in sync with the cruise control to maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you. It can vary its speeds accordingly and can even bring the car to a halt before regaining the set speed without any driver inputs. This feature works till a speed of 60kmph. It even provides slight steering corrections to keep the car from drifting into another lane. It also gets Night Vision Assist, Matrix LED lights and Park Assist with surround view.
With the Panamera Turbo in the country, we now have our eyes set on the Panamera Sport Turismo which certainly makes us go weak in the knees. Check it out here.
