The updates will be offered in both the sedan and crossover trims

The Porsche Taycan has been a landmark electric sedan since its debut in September 2019, being Porsche’s first all-electric offering. Now, the carmaker has made it even better by introducing MY2022 upgrades to keep it fresh. These upgrades are also offered for its crossover counterpart, the Taycan Cross Turismo. Here’s five key things that have been added in this update:

Improved Range Management

In this update Porsche has tweaked the Taycan’s powertrain to offer better range management. Some of the tweaks include, no drive being transmitted to either axle when the car is coasting or at a standstill, and the electric motors switch on again within milliseconds when the driver requests more power or changes the driving mode. While the carmaker hasn’t revealed any WLTP figures, they claim these updates it’ll improve the real-world range of the Taycan. For reference, the previously claimed range figures stand at 450km (Turbo), 420km (Turbo S) and 463km (4S).

Better Charging Tech

Next up is better battery charging management that includes what Porsche calls the Turbo Charging Planner. Basically, the Taycan’s 79.2kWh and 93.4kWh battery packs can be heated to shorten charging times and allow charging at a higher charge level. Also, the electric sedan uses waste heat from electrical components for better regulation of the battery temperature.

More Connectivity

The MY2022 Taycan now comes with Android Auto connectivity which is a surprise that it wasn’t already available from the start unlike Apple CarPlay. It's also gotten improvements to its voice assistant, and navigation system.

Remote Park Assist

The other update to the Taycan is the addition of remote park assist. Basically, the electric sedan can automatically detect parking spaces, and pull in or out of them without the driver needing to be behind the wheel. The user can control this feature via its Porsche Connect App on their smartphone.

New Shades

Last but not least, you can relive the nostalgic 964-generation Porsches of the 90s in the Taycan with new Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus colour palettes. The former offers 65 shades, including a raft of retro shades such as Moonlight Blue Metallic, Acid Green, Rubystar Red, Riviera Blue and Viola Metallic. The latter allows you to choose any colour you could possibly imagine on the Taycan.

The updated Porsche Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo EVs will begin rolling out in September, 2021. Back home, we could get the electric sedan in 2022 starting with the 4S, followed by the Taycan Cross Turismo at a later date.
