Apart from the fuel-injected BS6-compliant engine, Royal Enfield offers both tangible and intangible benefits over the BS4 model
Classic differences

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 is the cult bikemaker’s first BS6-compliant motorcycle to be launched in the country. While it looks more or less the same externally, it comes with a fuel-injected motor to comply with the stringent emission norms. Besides, the bike also comes with a few tricks up its sleeve over the BS4 model.

Going green gets costlier:

Classic 350 Black rear

The BS6 Royal Enfield Classic 350 starts from Rs 1,65,025 (ex-showroom Delhi) with prices varying with the different colour variants. Here’s a table comparing prices with that of the BS4 counterparts:

Classic 350 colour variants

Ex-showroom price in the rest of India

Price premium of BS6 bike compared to the ex-showroom Delhi price of the BS4 counterpart

Ex-showroom price of the BS6 bike in Kerala

Ex-showroom price of the BS6 bike in Karnataka

Classic Black

Rs 1,65,025

Rs 11,122

Rs 1,66,315

Rs 1,63,304

Gunmetal Grey

Rs 1,69,791

Rs 14,051

Rs 1,71,117

Rs 1,66,706

Signals edition (Airborne Blue and Stormrider Sand)

Rs 1,75,217

Rs 11,122

Rs 1,76,586

Rs 1,71,964

Stealth Black and Chrome Black

Rs 1,81,727

NA

Rs 1,83,147

Rs 1,80,006

The prices in Kerala and Karnataka are different likely because of the varying tax structures. The Gunmetal Grey colour version of the BS6 bike commands a heftier premium as it features alloy wheels as standard whereas the BS4 Gunmetal Grey variant features spoke wheels. More on that in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Gains fuel injection but falls power sees a slight dip:

Classic 350 BS6 engine

The BS6-compliant Royal Enfield Classic 350 features a fuel-injected (closed-loop system) 346cc engine, which churns out 19.3PS at 5250rpm and 28Nm 4000rpm. In comparison, the BS4-compliant bike makes 0.71PS more at the same rpm. That said, the peak torque is the same for the BS4 bike. The powerplant continues to feature a 5-speed transmission. Apart from cleaner emission, the fuel injector should theoretically ensure a more accurate throttle response and easier cold starts as well.

While the power difference isn’t much, it remains to be seen how it will affect the bike’s performance in the real world. Only a detailed road test will give us a clear idea.

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 comes with two new colour options: Stealth Black and Chrome Black. In addition, the BS6-compliant version is also available in Signals Airborne Blue, Signals Stormrider Sand, Gunmetal Grey and Classic Black -- all of which are offered in the BS4 model as well. Interestingly, the Stealth Black and Gunmetal Grey come with 9-spoke alloy wheels with tubeless tyres as standard.

On the other hand, all the colour variants of the BS4 Classic 350 come with spoke wheels and tubed tyres. Another minor change is that the BS6 bike comes with a single-horn setup and a slightly longer exhaust heat shield compared to the one on the BS4 bike. Since the BS6 bike is fuel injected, it is likely to feature an engine check light in place of the ammeter in the carburetted BS4 version.

Intangible benefits:

Royal Enfield offers a three-year warranty along with three-year roadside assistance as standard for the BS6 Classic 350. In comparison, the BS4 model gets a two-year warranty and one-year of roadside assistance as standard. That said, you can opt for the ‘Ride Sure’ plan, which offers up to four years of warranty. You also get a bunch of benefits with this scheme.

Same underpinnings, probably same dimensions too:

Classic 350 Chrome rear

The Classic 350 BS6 continues to use the same underpinnings as the BS4 bike. This includes a telescopic front fork, twin rear gas-charged shock absorbers, and disc brake on both ends measuring 280mm front and 240mm rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS. The bike rides on the same 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup with 90-section rubber up front and 110-section rear. While we’ve contacted the brand for additional detail regarding the dimensions, it is likely to be the same as the BS4 model. That said, expect the kerb weight to be different thanks to the inclusion of fuel injection.
