Royal Enfield is all set to launch the Thunderbird 350X and the 500X in India tomorrow. However, thanks to the recently leaked brochure of the two bikes, we have a brief idea of what to expect tomorrow.
The latest additions to the Thunderbird range will feature changes such as a short and flat handlebar, LED DRLs and taillamps along with a single-piece saddle seat instead of the split units seen on the regular variants. In addition to this, the standard chrome theme will be ditched for a blacked-out theme on the exhaust muffler, fork tubes and centre panel. The bikes will also feature 9-spoke alloy wheels shod with tubeless tyres, which is a first for a production-spec RE motorcycle. We do not expect the company to equip the motorcycles with ABS though.
According to the leaked brochure, the powertrains on both motorcycles are expected to remain unchanged. The Thunderbird 350X will continue to use the same 346cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder motor which makes 20PS of power and 28Nm of torque.
The 500X, on the other hand, will be powered by the standard Thunderbird 500’s 499cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 27.5PS of power and 41.3Nm of torque. Both bikes will be equipped with a 5-speed gearbox. There’s no change on the mechanical front either. As a result, the suspension units and brakes are also expected to be carried over from the standard models.
The new Thunderbird models will be available in a total of four colours - orange, blue, white and red. Expect the 350X and the 500X to be priced around Rs 10,000 more than the standard variants. For reference, the standard Thunderbird 350 is priced at Rs 1.49 lakh while the Thunderbird 500 sports a price tag of Rs 1.90 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
