There are two ways of looking at a funky concept. One, just stand in awe of the life-size toy car, or two, try to decipher the car which could be based on it in the 100 years to come. We, out of habit, do the latter. Maruti Suzuki got us up close with the Suzuki e-SURVIVOR at its stall at the Auto Expo 2018.
What you notice first is the radical design. It has massive open wheel arches, off-road wheels and a huge ground clearance. A key element of the design is the T-top roof derived straight out of the 90's. The wheels stereotypically get blue lights and the grille and headlamps get white LED elements to add to the futuristic look. To put it simply, the e-Survivor looks like a result of some naughty business between the Suzuki Jimny and the whacky X-90 when they were stranded on Cybertron.
Look under the skin and you will see that it is still a ladder-on-frame design. This is a key element of the e-Survivor's personality. This means that Suzuki is still planning to stick to conventional frames even in the future. Another key element here is the steering wheel. Yes, that's important because while most manufacturers are looking to replace the human element with autonomous tech, Suzuki still trusts us to steer in the future. Speaking of the drive, the e-Survivor is a 4x4, with each wheel being driven by an individual electric motor.
The e-Survivor concept brings together Suzuki's latest technologies like electric propulsion mated to a four-wheel-drive, and autonomous driving, when required, which will be seen in the Japanese car makers portfolio in the near future.
