Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited expanded their performance bike portfolio by launching two new motorcycles. Suzuki rode in the GSX-S1000 and the GSX-S1000F at Rs 12.25 lakh and Rs 12.70 lakh respectively; both prices are ex-showroom Delhi. Suzuki currently has the GSX-R 1000 litre-class and both the motorcycles host the same inline-four cylinder engine. The new GSX-S1000 isn’t a mere rebadged version of the GSX-R. Suzuki has built it on an entirely new platform making the machine more roadster than streetfighter.
Further changes include the addition of a three-way selectable traction control system and ABS in the Suzuki GSX-S1000. The new roadster gets KYB shocks that come with adjustable preload and rebound making it more fitting for street use. Braking duties are performed by Brembo monoblock callipers. Along with the GSX-S1000, Suzuki also took the wraps off its sport-tourer GSX-S1000F which essentially same underneath as its roadster sibling. It uses the same purpose-built chassis as the GSX-S1000 and the engine from the 2008 GSX-R1000. In fact, it has the same suspension and brake setup as well.
The Suzuki GSX-S1000F and GSX-S1000’s motor produces 146PS of peak power at 10,000rpm and 106Nm of peak torque at 9,500rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox that transmits power via chain drive. The power output of 146PS makes the Suzuki GSX-S1000 the second most powerful litre-class Japanese streetbike behind the Yamaha FZ1 and other rivals in the Indian market includes the Kawasaki Z1000 and the Honda CB1000. The Suzuki GSX-S1000F and GSX-S1000 tip the scale at 214kg and 209kg respectively. The Suzuki GSX-S1000F will squarely rival the Kawasaki Z1000 and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 in our market. The Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F are both available in two shades of Candy Daring Red / Glass Sparkle Black and Metallic Triton Blue.
Speaking about the launch, Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Ltd. said, “The GSX-S1000 is a naked roadster with an aggressive look, while the GSX-S1000F is its fully faired sibling. Their supersport genes deliver smooth, controlled handling and dynamic acceleration. We are launching these models globally and in India at the same time so that Indian motorcycle enthusiasts can lay their hands on the latest, top of the line Suzuki products. These motorcycles cater to the rider who wants a performance street motorcycle. These sport roadsters have expanded our already diverse big motorcycle lineup.”
