Suzuki is addressing a dangerous safety concern in the latest generation of the ‘Busa

Quick Highlights:

  • Gen 3 Suzuki Hayabusa recalled in India

  • Issue related to front brake lever play

  • Affected units were manufactured between March 2021 and September 2024

Suzuki’s flagship bike, Hayabusa, has been recalled in India. The Hayabusa, now its third generation, has been on sale in India since March 2021 and has sold 1056 units until September 2024.

It appears that all of the 1056 units which have been sold until September 2024 have been recalled due to an issue related to front brake lever play. The issue has been described as “The front brake lever play increases, in the worst case, the lever contacts with the throttle grip and the braking distance increases.”

From the way it looks, this is a serious issue as the front brake lever makes contact with the throttle grip and the braking distance increases overtime. For a bike which can reach the 300kmph mark very easily, this issue can be fatal. The older generation of the Hayabusa felt like it could do with an improved braking performance which the company solved with the current generation model by giving it Brembo brakes and increasing the disc diameter.

The third generation of the Suzuki Hayabusa is powered by a 1340cc inline-four liquid-cooled engine which produces 190PS at 9,700rpm and 150Nm at 7,000rpm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and assist clutch. The third generationHayabusa gets twin 320mm disc brakes paired with top-of-the-line Brembo Stylema callipers up front and a Nissin calliper at the rear. Suspension duties are carried out by fully adjustable 43mm KYB forks, offering 120mm travel and KYB monoshock.

In terms of features, the bike is packed to the brim with all the latest tech. It gets LED lights and aTFT screen. The Hayabusa’s electronics suite includes, ten levels of traction control, ten levels of wheelie control, three levels of engine brake control and launch control, and the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS). The SDMS comprises three presets: A,B and C, and three user-defined modes. TheHayabusa even gets a quickshifter and hill assist control as standard.

The Suzuki Hayabusa is priced at Rs 16,90,000 for the standard version and Rs 17,70,000 for the 25th Anniversary edition, which just gets a different paint job. Both prices ex-showroom Delhi.
