Suzuki Resurrects The Katana: Intermot 2018

Suzuki has launched two of its global off-road motorcycles, the RM-Z450 and the RM-Z250, in the country. According to the Japanese bike manufacturer, the former is the first motocross motorcycle to feature a new Showa balance free rear cushion (BFRC) suspension. The RM-Z450 employs a 449cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine, while the smaller RM-Z250 uses a 249cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine. Both motorcycles feature Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) with three selectable modes that offer the best launch option depending on road conditions.
The bigger motorcycle gets a front Showa adjustable inverted forks. The RM-Z250, on the other hand, gets KYB inverted front forks and KYB gas-charged monoshock at the rear, both fully adjustable. Both motorcycles are available in Champion Yellow at select Suzuki dealerships. Priced at Rs 7,10,000 and Rs 8,31,000 (both ex-showroom Delhi), respectively, the RM-Z250 and the RM-Z450 are quite expensive thanks to both bikes being imported via the CBU (completely built unit) route. They are not road legal and are meant for off-road use only. Chief competitors include the Kawasaki KX 250F (Rs 7,43,000) and the KX 450F (Rs 7,79,000) in India. Here’s Suzuki’s official statement:

New Delhi, October 03, 2018: Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), a subsidiary of one of the world’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, today launched their global flagship Motocross bikes - RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 designed specifically to promise an exhilarating off-roading experience to the riders.
Commenting on the launch of RMZ series, Mr. Satoshi Uchida, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. With the winning history of RM-Z450, the 2019 variant is powered with the 449 cm3, 4-stroke, fuel injected, DOHC engine for a faster yet controllable throttle response. It comes equipped with Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) which has three selectable modes to choose the best option as per road condition. While maintaining the winning speed, the RM-Z450 is the first motocross bike to adopt new balance free rear cushion (BFRC) technology ensuring excellent traction and better shock absorption offering high responsiveness on the track.
Similarly, Suzuki the 2018 RM-Z250 is powered with a 249cm3, 4-stroke, fuel injected, DOHC engine with a compact and lightweight design powers the engine’s winning performance. The bike comes equipped with Fuel Injection (FI) system and aluminium rims, which are made specifically to withstand rugged racing environments, including Supercross, Motocross and off-roading condition. It is a perfect amalgamation of lightweight, compact, powerful motorcycle that does not leave room for any complaints.
The 2019 RM-Z450 is fully designed with a laser focus on achieving the winning balance, with a fresh new look that enhances Suzuki’s distinctive design theme “Beak DNA”, aiding the off-road bikes with speed and sharpness. The slim styling of the motorbike enables the rider to easily shift his/her weight and manoeuvre effortlessly and the RM-Z250 harps on innovative technology and engineering updates. The RMZ series is a fine machine that embodies Suzuki’s 40 years of engineering excellence making it hard-hitting on the track, allowing sharpest handling, great balance and most rider friendly position to conquer corners and blistering straights, easily.
These motocross bikes which have been designed with innovative technology and engineering are meant for the winning stroke. Offered in Champion Yellow colour, RMZ-series up to launch in India including RM-Z250 and RM-Z450 will be available across selected Suzuki dealerships and will be priced at INR 7,10,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and INR 8,31,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
