Kia has released a new design sketch teasing what they are calling their new SUV. With the recently launched EV9 and the updated Carnival MPV stirring decent amount of attention among Indian car enthusiasts, the Korean marque seems determined to maintain that momentum. While the teaser reveals little, we believe it be the Clavis or Syros SUV, both of which have been trademarked in India.
Unlike the premium-positioned EV9 and Carnival, this new SUV's positioning in the Indian market remains to be seen and it is likely to be placed between the Sonet and Seltos. For now, let's dive into all the details we could gather from the teaser. Let’s begin!
The teaser shots give us a peek at the SUV’s silhouette and rear end, leaving much of the front design a mystery. However, we can make out vertical DRLs in the front, suggesting a close resemblance to the EV9’s design language. Kia’s signature tiger nose grille might as well follow.
The overall profile appears boxy and rugged, complete with roof rails mounted on a flat roof. Magnifying close on the teaser, we can spot flush-fitted door handles, and while not visible, the wheel arches are likely to be similarly chunky as those on the EV9.
The rear looks reveals the L-shaped tail lights that are positioned in the upper half of the SUV’s back. The tailgate looks to be rather flat keeping in touch with the boxy silhouette of the SUV
As for features, Kia claims this new SUV will feature amenities similar to that of the Carnival Limousine. While there’s no light on specifics yet, given that this model is expected to sit in a more affordable price range, we can reasonably anticipate a good package of modern amenities and safety features in it.
This new model is expected to be offered exclusively with ICE powertrain options, offering both petrol and diesel variants. In fact, it can borrow the Sonet’s existing engine configurations, which include a 1.2-litre NA petrol, 1-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel options.
This SUV will be positioned strategically between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s lineup. While some are speculating it to be the Clavis, everyone might still be surprised with a different name, with insiders hinting it could start with an “S” to align with their naming convention for SUVs just like the Sonet and Seltos.
While much about the SUV remains a mystery, its official unveiling is anticipated early next year, with a market launch expected soon after. Are you excited about this mysterious Kia SUV? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
