Porsche 911 GT3 RS India Price Revealed

Porsche launched the 911 GT3 in India just four months ago with Narain Karthikeyan bagging himself one a few days ago. The Stuttgart-based manufacturer has now announced that bookings for the latest and greatest 911 GT3 RS are open for an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.75 crore.

As the suffix suggests, the RS is a more hardcore, track-focussed-but-road-legal version of the Porsche 911 GT3. Changes include a retuned version of the 4.0-litre, flat (or opposed) 6-cylinder engine now developing 521PS (+21PS over the GT3) of maximum power and 469Nm (+9Nm) of peak torque, new chassis elements, lowered overall weight, an improved rear-wheel steering along with new exterior and interior design features.

In a world where turbocharging has become the norm, Porsche sticking to naturally aspirated engines is refreshingly different. The 911 GT3 RS, unlike the non-RS version, will only be offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. 0-100kmph is achieved in a claimed 3.2-seconds, with the sports car hitting a top speed of 312kmph.

There’s no mistaking the 911 GT3 RS for anything else from the 911 lineup, except maybe the turbocharged 911 GT2 RS. The design looks busier because of the all the additional vents on the bonnet, front fenders, the engine cover and the very obvious ones on the rear haunches. The huge wing at the rear is more performance focussed, but lightweight at the same time. Lightweight glass for the rear and rear-side windows help reduce the weight further.

Inside, the performance theme continues with the addition of carbon-fibre bucket seats, lightweight doors with no pockets and fabric door pulls. Porsche has removed some sound deadening material and made the engine cover lighter to help reduce the weight of the car. This should help improve the dynamics of an already great handling package.

Under the sporty body shell, Porsche has replaced the bearings on all arms with ball-joints in the interest of better dynamics. The 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear are made of lightweight materials and are shod with 235/35 section and 325/30 section tyres, respectively.

Porsche has announced that the GT3 RS can be had with a ‘Clubsport’ track-spec package, which includes a roll-over bar, fire-extinguisher, battery-disconnect preparation and six-point safety harnesses for no extra cost at all - it is not confirmed if the same will be made available for Indian customers too. Those looking to make the GT3 RS as track-focussed as possible can choose the ‘Weissach’ package, which adds carbon-fibre parts (body, interior and chassis) as well as magnesium alloy wheels to reduce the weight of the car to just 1430kgs!
