Triumph has filed an application for the Tiger 850 Sport with the Environmental Protection Agency in the USA. The Tiger Sport will be resurrected but could get the smaller motor instead of the previous 1050 powertrain from the Speed Triple.
The filings reveal that the upcoming motorcycle gets an 888cc motor that delivers 94PS and 87Nm. Given the similarities in engine size and power output, it appears to share its motor with the Tiger 900. However, instead of naming the upcoming motorcycle the Tiger Sport 900, Triumph has chosen to call it the Tiger 850 Sport. It means that Triumph could position the new motorcycle below the Tiger 900 GT.
Like previous Tiger Sport models, the new Tiger 850 Sport could be a road going motorcycle with longer-travel suspension and purely focused on the touring bit. This could mean road focussed tyres and suspension tune, as well as a taller windscreen and more comfortable seats. We expect the Tiger 850 Sport to hit the streets sometime later next year. It would compete with road focussed tourers like the BMW F 750 GS and Ducati Multistrada 950.
