The year 2017 has been an exciting one for Triumph with record sales figures, interesting alliances and new launches. Recently, along with the launch of the 2018 Speedmaster, the British motorcycle manufacturer also presented the new Bobber Black with few technical upgrades.
So, what is the new Bobber Black all about? Well, Triumph has painted all the parts of the Bobber in a deep shade of black, right from the exhaust to the chrome painted headlight rim, its engine cover, fuel tank, side panels, and also the seat pan.
Not just that, the Bobber Black promises to be so black that it will be available in two different shades of black - Jet Black and Matte Jet Black!
The colours aside, it receives a few minor upgrades too.
Starting at the front, the wheels are now smaller. The earlier 19-inch front wheel has been replaced by a beefier 16-inch spoke one. The bike maker has also replaced the single disc setup at the front of the standard bike with 310mm twin disc brakes with Brembo calipers.
The front Showa cartridge forks are now 47mm in diameter compared to the 41mm unit on the standard Bobber. The latest Triumph also comes with a full LED headlight with daytime running lights, a must, given how dark the bike is. Even cruise control will be a standard feature on the bike, making it more suitable for a longer ride.
However, the new bike is 9.6kg heavier than the standard bike. We feel the added weight contradicts the essence of minimalism that bobbers are known for.
Essentially, a bobber is a motorcycle that is stripped of all the unnecessary parts to make it lighter and faster.
The Bobber Black is powered by a liquid-cooled, 1200cc engine - same as the standard variant - which churns out 77PS of power at 6100rpm and 106Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. The 6-speed transmission remains the same too and the bike continues to function on the same electrical bits too. So you get a ride-by-wire throttle system and two power modes - Rain and Road.
Other than the two different kits the Triumph Bobber is offered with - the Quarter Mile Inspiration kit and the Old School Inspiration kit - both the standard Bobber and the Bobber Black can be customised with over 130 options. These options include swingarm bags and panniers, 'ape hanger' high bars, LED indicators, and Fox rear shocks, among others.
We expect Triumph to unveil the Bobber Black in India at the 2018 Auto Expo. The latest motorcycle from Triumph is expected to carry a premium of Rs 50,000 over the standard variant, raising its cost to nearly 9.8 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
