Without any teasers or leaks, TVS dropped the 2022 Apache RTR 160 4V, Surprise! The bike has been updated with segment-first features which should make it a better value-for-money offering than before. But are the new changes enough to give it an edge over its chief rival, the Hero Xtreme 160R, on paper? Well, let’s put the data together and find out.

With the engine configuration and the power output, it’s clear that the 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is the winner here. Its 4-valve setup definitely aids the firepower which is evident in the numbers. On paper, it outperforms the Xtreme 160R even in the Urban/Rain mode.
Moreover, the Apache RTR 160 4V makes its peak power and torque higher in the revs which speaks volumes for its sporty character. This should make it a hoot during spirited weekend rides.

Both bikes use more or less the same suspension setup and get a preload-adjustable rear shock. Theoretically, the Xtreme 160R should have better braking prowess with the larger front as well as rear disc.
However, the 2022 Apache RTR 160 4V should benefit from its slightly skinny tyres as it would be easy to flick. TVS also offers the bike with a rear radial tyre for the front and rear disc brake variants. This should theoretically enhance its cornering capabilities as the radial tyre has a stronger sidewall as compared to conventional rubber.

Since the Apache RTR 160V has a 30mm longer wheelbase, it should be more stable in the straights than the Xtreme 160R. It gets more ground clearance too, which is a boon for our broken and pothole-ridden city roads. However, the weight scale is where the Hero Xtreme 160R has the edge since it weighs almost 6kg less than the TVS bike. Moreover, its seat is also lower, making it a more convenient option for shorter riders.
Both the bikes get LED illumination, a digital console with a tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, time as well as a trip meter as standard. But the Apache 160 gets a bit more goodies, though that’s mentioned in the verdict.

Rs 1,11,610 (Front disc) Rs 1,14,660 (Front and rear disc) Rs 1,16,460 (100 Million Edition) |
And now the most important aspect: the asking price. While the 2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V costs more than the Hero Xtreme 160R, it also backs up the price tag with the list of features on offer. The riding modes are standard throughout the range and as you move up the echelon, the Apache RTR 160 4V also gets turn-by-turn navigation, and the Special edition variant even gets an adjustable clutch and brake lever, all of which enhances the user experience.
So if you are out for a 160cc bike, the 2022 TVS Apache RTR definitely makes for a worthy purchase.
