The Citroen C3 has finally got a much-needed update to complete its package – an automatic transmission. It’s priced at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and gets a sophisticated 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Considering that we have done an in-depth comparison of the C3 with almost all its rivals, in this report, we’ll just be comparing the C3's ‘auto box’ with its important rivals such as the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Exter / Grand i10 Nios and Tata Punch.
Cars |
Price Range (ex-showroom) |
Citroen C3 |
Rs 10 lakh to Rs 10.27 lakh |
Maruti Suzuki Swift |
Rs 7.74 lakh to Rs 9.44 lakh |
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios |
Rs 7.42 lakh to Rs 8.56 lakh |
Hyundai Exter |
Rs 8.23 lakh to Rs 10.43 lakh |
Tata Punch |
Rs 7.6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh |
*All prices are for the automatic variants
The Citroen C3 Automatic’s price starts from Rs 10 lakh which is more than the entry prices of not just its rival compact hatchbacks but also the two micro-SUVs. But do note that the C3’s auto ‘box is offered with a turbo-petrol engine and is limited to the top-end 'Shine' variant.
So when comparing it to other top-end models in this test, the premium the C3 commands over the Swift and Grand i10 Nios is justifiable. And while it’s priced similarly to the Punch’s top-end variant, it undercuts the Exter by a notable margin.
Cars |

Tata Punch |

The Citroen C3 is the only car in this list that comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. All its competitors get a more cost-effective 5-speed AMT.
The Citroen C3 produces significantly more output (110 PS / 205 Nm) when compared to its naturally aspirated rivals.
It must be noted that the Hyundai Exter and Grand i10 Nios are the only ones to come with a four-cylinder engine. All other cars in this test get a three-cylinder unit.
In the confines of this test, it’s clear that the Citroen C3 is the clear winner. It gets a more powerful turbo-petrol engine and a more sophisticated six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. And even better is that the more advanced tech is priced similarly to its rivals. Which of these cars would you bring home? Let us know in the comments.
