BS6 KTM 250 Duke vs BS4 250 Duke: Differences Explained

The launch of the 250 Duke was the KTM's biggest surprise for the Indian market in 2017 so far. The 2017 KTM 250 Duke is the newest addition to the KTM India Duke range and boasts the same styling and features as the new 390 Duke but misses on the LED headlamps and TFT screen. The 250 Duke is priced at Rs 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and faces competition from the Benelli TNT 25 and the Mahindra Mojo. The Honda CBR250R might not be a direct competitor but it comes pretty close in terms of pricing and power figures. Here's how the KTM 250 Duke stands up against the competition.
Engine –
The KTM 250 Duke is powered with a 248.76cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which produces 30PS and 24Nm. The Benelli TNT 25 gets a 249cc single-cylinder, liquid cooled engine that makes 28.16 bhp and 21.61Nm. The Mahindra Mojo is powered with a 295cc liquid-cooled single which gives out 27.19PS and 30Nm while the Honda CBR250R with the 249.6cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor makes 26.51PS and 22.9Nm at 7000rpm. Of the lot, it is the 250 Duke which has the most powerful motor while the Mojo with its 50cc advantage makes the most amount of torque.
Features –
KTM has always been known for the feature list offered on their bikes at a competitive price. The 2017 KTM250 Duke gets Super Duke inspired styling, first in class slipper clutch, split trellis frame, aluminium swingarm, LCD display, new side slung exhaust which adds aesthetic finesse to the overall bike and open cartridge USD suspension. All the mentioned bikes miss out on slipper clutch which aids smooth downshifts. The CBR250R is the only bike to get ABS along with combined braking system of the lot. The Mojo is shod with Pirelli tyres which offer superb grip while the TNT 25 gets the sticky Metzelers for the Premium variant.
Dimensions and cycle parts –
The KTM 250 Duke employs a split trellis frame, the Mahindra Mojo gets a twin tube chassis while the Honda CBR250R gets a twin spar frame. The 250 Duke has a 1357mm wheelbase while the Honda CBR250R, Benelli TNT 25 and Mahindra Mojo have a 1367mm, 1400mm and 1465mm wheelbase respectively. The Mojo has the longest wheelbase here and the 250 Duke has the shortest. The TNT 25 is the lightest motorcycle here with a kerb weight of 159kg while the 250 Duke, CBR250R and Mojo weigh 161kg, 163kg and 165kg respectively.
Pricing –
The 250 Duke is priced at Rs 1.73 lakh, the CBR250R at Rs 1.89 lakh (ABS), the TNT 25 is available at Rs 1.84 lakh while the Mojo is priced at Rs 1.88 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The CBR250R is the most expensive bike in the segment, also it has been along for a long time and continues with a dated design. It also has makes the least power here. TNT 25 is the smallest capacity motorcycle offered by Benelli in India and it is the most expensive motorcycle in the competition. It is a fairly impressive package but suffers due to dealer and service network. Mojo on the other hand, is a bike targeted for cruising and for that purpose it does tick all the right boxes. The KTM 250 Duke offers the best value for money proposal in the segment as on paper it is capable of delivering the best performance and dynamics here. It gets the best cycle parts too and considering the design, the 250 Duke is the most futuristic looking bike in the comparison.
