The launch of Triumph’s Scrambler 400 X has expanded the scrambler segment, which so far only had two other models: the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and the Yezdi Scrambler. Now, with three models to choose from, the question naturally arises: how well does the Triumph Scrambler 400 X compare with its competitors? Let’s find out:

Out of the three motorcycles here, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a major advantage over the rest when it comes to power figures, the disparity is a result of a higher capacity engine (than the Yezdi Scrambler) combined with liquid cooling.
Additionally, both motorcycles – the Yezdi and the Triumph – eclipse the Scram when it comes to power but this doesn't necessarily translate into better performance off-road. The gearing on the Scram 411 is set up with a really long second gear, which makes the bike very potent when riding through trails, and travelling off-road in general.

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is able to outclass the others in terms of suspension travel, with the Triumph Scrambler 400 X in second and the Yezdi at third. This isn’t surprising when taking into account the origins of each motorcycle.
The Scram 411 is a scrambler derivative of the Royal Enfield Himalayan (an adventure bike), which has given it a great advantage when it comes to off-roading. And the higher suspension travel helps when getting past obstacles, outclassing the other two by a wide margin.
The Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Yezdi Scrambler, when compared to the Scram 411, are both essentially road bikes that can handle a bit of off-roading. The Scrambler 400 X is a scrambler variant of the Speed 400 and the Yezdi Scrambler, though a standalone model, is more road-oriented, with relatively low suspension travel on both ends.

Features
The Royal Enfield Scram 411 feels a bit lacking in terms of features. Switchable ABS, present in the Himalayan, is absent here, and that does hurt the Scram’s performance off-road.
The Triumph Scrambler 400, on the other hand, is packed with features, which includes switchable ABS along with traction control. The Yezdi is not far behind and comes with 3 riding modes through which the rider can change the ABS intervention sensitivity and even switch the rear ABS off. The Road mode strikes a balance in the ABS intervention, Rain mode increases it, while Off-road mode switches off the rear ABS, making the bike better at tackling rough terrain.

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is priced way above its competitors in the scrambler segment, and with the higher engine performance and features like traction control, one could argue that the price is justified. But when looking at other aspects, like its seat height, it is clear that it won’t be the best pick if you are a shorter rider.
On the other side we have the Royal Enfield Scram 411, which can be considered the best suited for off-road riding, given the longer suspension travel that allows the bike to traverse broken terrain with ease. The only downside, though, is the lack of switchable ABS.
The Yezdi, in this regard, strikes a balance between the two and is not only more accessible for shorter riders, but the higher power output it produces (compared to the Scram 411) makes it an ideal bike for the city and one that will be lighter on the pocket than the Triumph Scrambler 400 X.
In the end, which bike is perfect depends on what you are looking for. If you want something to go trail riding and off-roading, then Scram 411 would be perfect but if you are more laid back and ride primarily in the city with occasional excursions into nature, then the Yezdi Scrambler would be the right choice. The Triumph Scrambler 400 X combines higher power and relatively decent performance offroad while also offering more features. So if you want the best of both worlds and, more importantly, are willing to pay the higher price, then the Scrambler 400 X would be the ideal choice for you.
