For all you Yammie fans looking to answer an adventurous call of the blue, well, we come bearing good news. In an exclusive interview with Yamaha India’s chairman Eishin Chihana, it was revealed that the Japanese marque is looking to tap into the entry-level ADV segment.
Yes, a Yamaha ADV, likely to fall in the premium sub-150cc category. This gives rise to two possibilities, one of which sounds really exciting. First being the Yamaha WR 155R dual-purpose motorcycle. The company did consider bringing this bike to India back in 2020. If this bike eventually lands in India, it would be positioned and priced between the Hero XPulse 200 4V and Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Well, as exciting as this proposition sounds, there are two drawbacks with this option. One being that the price of this motorcycle, as stated, would be towards the higher side of the spectrum. Second, the WR 155R is more off-road biased than being a proper tourer, a bit too serious for all buyers. Thus considering this is going to be Yamaha’s first adventure bike, taking the premium, off-road-focussed expensive bike route seems unlikely.
This brings us to the second possibility that Yamaha may most likely end up considering. An adventure motorcycle based on the Yamaha FZ-X. The company had earlier conducted a customisation challenge, out of which one winning entry was a FZ-X-based adventure bike. This bike was even spotted in its flesh at a Yamaha dealership last month.
Yeah, we know, this option isn’t as exciting as getting the WR 155R, but hey, it's a start, right?
