KTM seems to be playing the variant game strongly. First, it diversified the 390 Adventure with not two but four flavours, then it began rolling out the 250 Adventure with an additional low seat height trim, and now there’s a new LED headlight version of its most popular bike, the 200 Duke, set to launch soon.
The LED headlight will be the same unit as on the 250 Duke and 390 Duke, as well as their ADV counterparts. As a result, Bajaj… we mean KTM, will be able to keep the price premium in check. We have been told that it is likely to be Rs 4,000 dearer than the current model, which retails at Rs 1.93 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The value-for-money tag that KTMs used to brag about has been lost for quite some time. However, this addition does seem worth the premium. You will still be able to buy the 200 Duke sans the LED headlight and save the Rs 4,000 but why should you? Get the more advanced lighting system, we say.
Also, this might just be a way to get rid of the existing 200 Duke inventory before KTM does launch the updated new-gen Dukes, which is slated to take place towards the end of this year. This will be the biggest overhaul of the Duke family since 2017 where the whole range became sharper, leaner and meaner. And with the spy shots, we expect the same to happen for the 2023 model.
