The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is meant to bring in more rookie riders into the world of trail riding, and here’s everything you should know about it

To make off-road riding more accessible, Royal Enfield has launched the new Scram 411 in the country. Priced at Rs 2,03,085, it is around Rs 11,000 less expensive than the more hardcore ADV, the Royal Enfield HimalayanIf you're keen on buying one, here's everything you should know:

Styling:

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 carries over the spartan design philosophy of the Himalayan but with several tweaks. The headlight is fork clamp-mounted, and the windshield and tank braces have been eliminated. Instead, you get a pair of small tank extensions.

The side panels are revised, and at the rear, it gets a simple grab rail instead of the tail rack-integrated one in the Himalayan. Royal Enfield hasn't compromised on core functionality as the bike still retains the aluminium bash plate and upswept exhaust. The Chennai-based manufacturer also offers the Scram 411 in as many as seven funky, attention-grabbing colours.

Features:

Though the headlamp mounting is different, it still is a halogen unit. The indicators are bulb, but the taillight is LED. The semi-digital multifunction off-set instrument cluster looks similar to the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. There's also a smartphone-connected Tripper Navigation pod as an optional fitment for an extra Rs 5,000. Oh, and the bike comes with a single-piece seat, and dual-channel ABS as standard.

Royal Enfield offers three accessory kits: Essential, Urban, and Explorer. The first one consists of an engine guard, master cylinder guard, oil cooler guard, and a bike cover (all blacked-out) for Rs 4,230. The 'Urban' kit (Rs 5,895) gets all the 'Essential' accessories plus an oil filler cap and a front brake reservoir cap. The 'Explorer' kit (Rs 5,625) includes all that's there in the 'Essential' pack, plus a front brake reservoir cap and a black premium sport seat (with a quilted cover).

Another significant change in the Scram 411 compared to the Himalayan lies in the underpinnings department. Since this is meant to take on trails, the Scram’s 41mm front fork comes with 190mm travel, 10mm less than the Himalayan. That said, the rear-linked monoshock remains the same as the ADV, offering 180mm wheel travel.

More importantly, the Scram 411 rolls on smaller 19-inch front spoke wheels wrapped in a 100-section block pattern tyre. The rear wheel is identical to the Himalayan -- a 17-inch unit wrapped in 120-section rubber. Thanks to the different suspension and wheel setup, the bike’s ground clearance has gone down to 200mm, 20mm less than the Himalayan. Braking has been entrusted to the same 300mm front and 240mm rear discs with dual-channel ABS.

Engine:

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 shares the same 411cc single-cylinder air-oil-cooled, counterbalanced engine as the Himalayan. It even churns out the same power and torque: 24.3PS at 6500rpm and 32Nm at 4250rpm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Fortunately, Royal Enfield has not made any compromises when it comes to outright power.

Price And Rivals:

The Scram 411 is offered in several colours and at different price points. The pricing starts from Rs 2,03,895 for the Graphite Red/Yellow/Blue colour variants, the Blazing Black and Skyline Blue are priced at Rs 2,04,921, while the range-topping White Flame and Silver Spirit retail for Rs 2,08,593. All prices, ex-showroom Delhi.

The Royal Enfield Scram competes primarily against the Yezdi Scrambler and the Yezdi Adventure. However, if you’re looking for a road-biased scrambler-esque motorcycle, you also have the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and the Honda CB350RS. That said, they aren’t as well equipped to handle the trails as the Scram 411.
