One of the biggest and most opulent nameplates in the automotive world is going electric in 2025. We are referring to the Land Rover Range Rover SUV, which is currently in its testing phase. We’ve been previously given a glimpse by a short teaser video and the electric flagship SUV has now been confirmed to arrive in early 2025.
Before Land Rover takes the covers off its first all-electric SUV, here’s a lowdown on what you can expect from it:
The Land Rover Range Rover has always been all about that swank, and its electric avatar won’t change that. It will look almost similar to its ICE counterparts, but with a few subtle EV-specific cues, like ‘EV’ badging on the hub caps. So you can still expect a smooth, cut- and crease-free exterior with curved panels making the design feel effortless.
The cabin too, will offer the same level of luxury and comfort, if not more. Generous use of soft touch leather materials, big screens and a host of motorised components – all of these niceties can be expected from the big electric Rangie.
With an electric powertrain carrying out propulsion duties, the Range Rover will be devoid of any sort of engine noise and vibrations. There will be that underlying electric tone that we see in EVs but the whole experience will be far more refined and Land Rover has said this itself.
It’ll be based on a 800-V architecture so there will be lightning fast charging capabilities. As for the power figures, Land Rover claims that the electric Range Rover will be on par with the Range Rover V8, which does 0-100kmph in 4.6 seconds. We reckon with the instant torque that electrification brings, this number could shave off a couple of tenths, easily.
You can expect multiple battery sizes and electric motor tunes, which should be variant specific. Despite the flagship Range Rover not being a hardcore off-roader like the Defender, it does have Land Rover DNA, which still makes it mighty capable. The electric one will follow the same footsteps and even offer up to 850mm water wading capabilities. Sweet!
Despite the electric Range Rover being one year away, quite a few people have lined up in the waiting list. Over 16,000 have signed up for it, and even though a lot of them might cancel it later on, the number is still staggering.
But what’s gonna be even more staggering is the price tag. The standard Land Rover Range Rover retails between Rs 2.38 crore and Rs 4.30 crore (ex-showroom). The electric one is bound to be even more expensive, and is expected to easily break the 5 crore barrier for the top-spec variants. That’s a lot of money, but then, you do get a whole lotta car for it.
