2022 has been an interesting year for us motorcyclists as we got to see some really cool motorcycles and even cooler features on them which made us go, “WOW… how’d they do that?”. And the best part is that this list features ICE and electric two-wheelers. So, here is our list of five cool features we’ve seen on two-wheelers, both EVs and ICE, in the year 2022.
The Zontes bikes get a 5-inch, full-colour TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity. The theme is customizable (four settings), displays notifications (call and SMS), turn-by-turn navigation, and allows toggling between music. But the coolest feature of this TFT screen is the ‘mirror function’ which allows you to, say, project a YouTube video on your bike’s TFT console–yup, like on smart TVs.
A function seen often in cars is now pleasantly available on Ola S1 e-scooters too. How the hill hold function works is simple - if you’re stationary on the scooter and on an incline, it prevents the scooter from rolling back for a period of 30 seconds, and you don’t even have to hold your brakes for it.
Motorheads will tell you that e-bikes aren't ‘real bikes’ since they lack gears. With the matterDrive 1.0 system, Matter has put an end to that debate. The mid-mounted, liquid-cooled, IP65-rated 10.5kW motor has a four-speed manual gearbox with a clutch. You get varying torque and throttle responsiveness as a result, just like a petrol-powered bike!
The Ntorq XT has a new segment-first for India: a hybrid, split TFT and LCD digital instrument cluster. It also gets TVS’s SmartXonnect (Bluetooth connectivity). Additionally, it gets a SmartXtalk speech assistant which can be used to navigate, change display modes, control music, and adjust screen brightness. It also comes with the SmartXtrack feature which provides real-time notifications for the weather, news, cricket, and even your Swiggy and Amazon delivery status.
Yet another super useful function seen predominantly on premium bikes and cars has found its way down to the affordable two-wheeled EV space. E-scoots like the Ola S1 allow you to hold cruising speeds by simply pushing a button. This feature will reduce fatigue while on the highway for extended periods of time.
