It will be the first major update to the second-gen SUV in the country

With the facelifted Audi Q5 launch still a month away in November, the carmaker has commenced local production of the SUV at its Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) plant in Aurangabad.

First unveiled in markets abroad back in June 2020, the first proper update to the second-gen Q5 will look  sportier courtesy a more refined and larger single-piece front grille, snazzier LED DRLs with new headlights, bolder bumpers, and new alloy wheels.  The OLED tail lamps, which could be on offer, are a nice party trick with the units featuring three tiles and six segments that can project different designs and signatures according to the mode selected.

While the cabin will look largely unchanged, it will get more tech via Audi’s latest MMI UI in the 10.1-inch infotainment system featuring touch inputs or voice commands, and updated graphics on its virtual cockpit. It’ll also come equipped with connected car tech, a premium sound system, tri-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, and powered front seats.

The India-spec 2021 Q5 is set to be powered by a 245PS 2-litre petrol engine, paired to a 7-speed DCT gearbox with an all-wheel drivetrain. Adaptive air suspension can be added as an option. However, there won’t be a diesel engine in the lineup, unlike the pre-facelift model.

We expect the 2021 Audi Q5 SUV to be priced from Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) onwards. Once on sale, it will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLCBMW X3Lexus NX300h, and Volvo XC60.
