While one’s a midlife refresh, the other is Porsche’s first-ever electric vehicle that will be on sale in the country

It's set to be a double car launch bonanza for Porsche on November 12, as the carmaker will be launching the facelifted Macan SUV, and the carmaker’s first all-electric offering, the Taycan electric sedan in India. Let’s take a look at what to expect from the two models:

MY2022 Macan

First unveiled in markets abroad in July earlier this year, this is the second midlife refresh for the SUV after the first facelift was launched in India back in July 2019. The biggest change in the SUV is a revamped engine lineup where the Turbo trim has been axed. The GTS becomes the new range-topping Macan, and also gets the Turbo’s 440PS 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. In the same way, the Macan S receives the GTS’ 380PS 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, with the base Macan retaining the 2-litre turbo engine, albeit with 17PS more grunt at 265PS. All trims are paired with a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox with an all-wheel drivetrain.

Other updates include the GTS getting a sport adaptive air suspension, and a reworked Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. Performance aside, the Macan gets subtle touch ups to the front grille, rear diffusers and can be specced with upto seven alloy wheel options. The cabin gets the 992 generation 911’s GT Sport steering wheels, a tweaked centre console with touch-sensitive panels in place of physical buttons, and a shorter gear selector.

Breaking cover all the way back in September 2019, the Taycan is Porsche’s first ever electric model. The electric sedan boasts a slick design that has a drag coefficient of 0.22, and is all-digital on the inside with a 16.8-inch instrument cluster, dual 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.4-inch center console.

But what really gets the Taycan talking is under the hood. Offered in three configurations: 4S, Turbo and Turbo S, the synchronous electric powertrain delivers 530PS (4S), 670PS (Turbo) and 751PS (Turbo S). With the option of 79.2kWh and 93.4kWh battery packs, the WLTP claimed range figures for the electric sedan stand at 463km (4S), 450km (Turbo), and 420km (Turbo S). It uses an 800 volt charging architecture to allow fast charging from 5 to 80 percent in just under 23 minutes.

Other performance wizardry in the Taycan includes an adaptive air suspension with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damper control, and optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport).

Expected Price And Rivals

The updated Macan should be priced at a premium over the current model that retails from Rs 68.14 lakh (Macan) to Rs 79.14 lakh (Macan S). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Jaguar F-Pace, and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe.

The Taycan on the other hand could be launched at prices starting from Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom, India). It will have the Audi e-tron GT to go up against in the Indian market.
