Quick Highlights
The Indian FTR 1200 has been discontinued globally
It is still listed on Indian’s website & unsold stocks remain
Had undergone a lot of changes to make it more suited to road riding compared to the FTR750
The Indian FTR 1200 has been discontinued. The bike was offered as a road version of the hugely successful Indian FTR 750 flat tracker. The bike has been discontinued due to poor sales, but it is still listed on Indian’s official website. The discontinuation was revealed in an earnings call published by Polaris Industries, Indian’s parent company.
In the earnings call, the brand revealed that “The company realized certain costs associated with the wind down of the FTR product line beginning in the fourth quarter of 2024.”. This means that the brand is not selling new stocks of the FTR, and they’re likely clearing out unsold stocks right now. The bike is still listed on the brand’s website and could be completely removed from the website and portfolio once the remaining stock is sold off.
The Indian FTR 1200 was offered as a roadster/flat tracker hybrid. Indian Motorcycles took a lot of design and styling cues from the Indian Scout FTR750. The bike features a similar-looking tear drop shaped tank as the Scout FTR 750, but manages to stand out thanks to its overall muscular profile.
The bike is powered by a 1203cc, liquid-cooled, v-twin engine which produces 121.6PS and 117.9Nm. It is built on a trellis frame and is suspended on an inverted fork and an off-set monoshock setup. Unlike the Scout FTR750 which rolls on 19-inch alloys, the Indian FTR 1200 gets 17-inch wheels across all variants. The braking duties are handled by a twin-disc setup at the front and a single disc at the rear with Brembo calipers.
In terms of features, it had electronic riding aids such as traction control, cornering ABS, wheelie control and launch control. The bike had a 4-inch round TFT console with features such as smartphone connectivity, and related bits like navigation, call/SMS alerts.
Overall, the Indian FTR 1200 was one of the most unique bikes that were launched by the brand. When we think about American motorcycling, the first bike types which come to our mind are cruisers, bobbers and baggers. We often overlook flat trackers, as the racing format is not popular outside the US. This is one of the reasons why we think the Indian FTR 1200 was not as successful as other bikes in the Indian Motorcycles lineup.
