TVS has applied for a new cruiser design trademark, and the documents for the same have leaked online. Could this be the much-awaited Zeppelin that TVS had showcased a while back? We explore.
TVS showcased the Zeppelin cruiser concept at Auto Expo 2018, and since, there have been no updates on the bike till now. Instead of the cruiser, we got the TVS Ronin last year, and the upcoming cruiser will be based on the same platform as Ronin.
Even though the Zeppelin will share the same platform as the Ronin, it will lean more towards a traditional cruiser approach. TVS Ronin already has a befitting frame to base a cruiser on, but the current ergonomics on the bike are rather confusing. Addressing that, the cruiser will get more forward-set footpegs, which will need the exhaust system to be redesigned, as is evident in the image, and will likely have a lowered seat as well.
Apart from that, what can be understood from the design patent is that the bike silhouette is identical to the Ronin with the retro styling, a circular headlight, wide handlebar, and muscular design. This should make it a good rival to the Royal Enfield Meteor 350.
Powering this cruiser will be the same 225.9cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine as the Ronin, producing 20.5PS and 19.93Nm. However, to suit the cruiser requirements, the engine can be tuned differently.
Summing up, as mentioned before, the TVS Ronin’s platform is perfect for a cruiser, and Ronin is a mixture of genres, and a rather confusing one. That said it will be exciting to see a cruiser based on this platform – maybe the Zeppelin – finally come to life.
