KTM seems to ensure none of its customers, past or present, are left in the lurch

We already know KTM has just launched the top-spec variant of the 390 Adventure, with the main difference being the adjustable suspension and spoke wheels. This is especially beneficial for riders who know exactly what they want from their bike. ANd as it turns out, KTM hasn’t forsaken existing 390 Adventure owners either, as our sources reveal that they too may soon be able to retrofit the adjustable suspension and spoke wheels onto their bikes.

To recap, the newly launched top-shelf KTM 390 Adventure gets a WP Apex fork with 30 steps of preload and rebound adjustability, and a WP Apex monoshock with 20 steps of rebound and 10 steps of preload adjustability.  This makes it vastly better than the standard bike, the suspension setup on which is quite firm and unbecoming of an off-road focused machine. Besides, spoke wheels are generally more flexible while taking impacts, making them that much more capable on the rough stuff.

From what we’ve learnt, the cost of changing the suspension and adding the spoked rims could roughly be around Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,000. Granted, it isn’t an insignificant amount. But it’s a steal considering the cost of the top-spec 390 Adventure (Rs 3.60 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi). In fact, it's almost at par with its Rs 21,254 price difference over the standard model.

Summing up, with different variants, and now the option for retro-fitting components coming in soon, KTM seems to go all guns blazing. This is a clear incentive for both Hero and Royal Enfield to up their game on the upcoming Xpulse 400 and Himalayan 450, respectively.
