Land Rover has opened the order books for the 2023 Range Rover Velar in India. The SUV had received a mid-life facelift at the beginning of this year which brought a handful of changes to its exterior and interior, while it also got updated powertrain options. In India, the British marque will undertake deliveries for the Velar from September onwards.
The facelift only packs minor tweaks to the exterior, but those minor changes have a big impact on its overall appearance. The whole design looks a lot sleeker than before, thanks to a smaller revised grille, subtly redesigned two-part LED DRLs and the slimmer taillights. Both the front and rear bumpers have been slightly tweaked, while the side profiles are largely identical to the outgoing model except for the new rim options.
It also gets two new shades for its skeleton: Metallic Varesine Blue and Premium Metallic Zadar Grey.

The overall cabin layout is similar as before, but what isn’t similar anymore is the new floating 11.4-inch unit, which, instead of being part of the dash, is placed on top of it. It also removes the need for the second screen for HVAC controls as the same can now be accessed via the single screen itself, giving it a minimalist look.
As a result, the central tunnel looks a lot cleaner and almost uninterrupted, apart from the thick gear knob selector. That said, we prefer knobs and buttons for the AC as they make usability a whole lot easier. The steering wheel is also less chunkier than before and fits well with the overall minimalistic look of the interior.
Top features include the new aforementioned infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display with navigation and infotainment integration, wireless phone charging, a 1,300-Watt Meridian sound system, cabin air filter, and heated, cooled and massaging front seats. Moreover, it also gets a new Active Road Noise Cancellation system to make the cabin even quieter.
As for its powertrain options, you get two choices: a 250PS/365Nm 2-litre petrol and a 204PS/420Nm 2-litre diesel engine. These output figures are the same as the outgoing model and both the engines send power to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The carmaker will only offer the facelifted Velar in a single Dynamic HSE variant and we expect it to carry a premium over the outgoing model, which was priced at Rs 89.41 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll continue to rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5.
