The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT has smashed the fastest SUV lap record at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), recording a lap time of 2:12:297. The Cayenne Turbo GT was faster by almost a staggering 4 seconds compared to the previous track record holder, the Audi RS Q8. This record was broken by Siddharth Desai who was behind the wheel. Speaking of Siddharth, he is a Porsche enthusiast who himself is a proud owner of a Porsche 981 GT4. Meanwhile, the record was broken at a private event at BIC without factory support for the SUV.
The Cayenne Turbo GT – known as the most potent Cayenne in history – is owned by Pawan Shetty who comes from Mumbai. Notably, the record-breaking SUV did not have any mechanical upgrades or tunes and was in stock format. On the other hand, the previous lap record – with a lap time of 2:16:767 – was set in the Audi RS Q8 with an expert racing driver behind the wheel. There was also factory support available.
Under the bonnet, the Cayenne Turbo GT uses a 4-litre turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 650 PS and 850 Nm, enabling it to reach 100 kmph from a standstill in 3.3 seconds. The SUV provides a top speed of 306 kmph.
It is interesting to note that when it comes to holding a lap time record at the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife (famously known as the Green Hell) the Audi RS Q8 Performance had clocked a lap time of 7:36:698, whereas the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT recorded a lap time of 7:38:925 before its global debut.
As one of the largest multinational conglomerates in the automotive space, Volkswagen Group has various brands under its umbrella, namely Porsche, Audi, Bentley, as well as Lamborghini. Having benefited from being under the same group, these brands share platforms, components, and powertrain, which technically means that the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and Audi RS Q8 are cousins.
Most notably, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is available in only the coupe version. In India, the Cayenne prices range between Rs 1.42 crore and Rs 2.01 crore (ex-showroom) and it takes on the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentley Bentayga, Aston Martin DBX 707, and Audi RS Q8.
