New details have been revealed in the teaser of the upcoming Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. We analyse them and explain why it could be priced lower than the Speed 400

Details Revealed

The upcoming Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is one of the biggest bike launches of July. And the Chennai-based bike manufacturer isn’t leaving any stone unturned to get people talking about it. The latest from their hype machine is a post by the legendary racer, Guy Martin. While it seems like a run-of-the-mill teaser, the video actually ends up telling a lot about the roadster, and hinting at its launch price, which could be cheaper than the Triumph Speed 400.

First up is the instrument console which doesn’t seem to be the TFT unit from the Himalayan 450. Instead, this looks like the offset semi-digital unit from the Super Meteor 650. That means the Guerrilla won’t have riding modes, and no Google Maps navigation in the display. However, the Tripper display, which will add turn-by-turn navigation to the bike, might be an optional accessory.

The rotary-dial switchgear looks similar to the Himalayan 450, but the button on the left-hand-side switchgear, which was used to display modes on the ADV, could be repurposed to change what the digital cluster shows, similar to the ‘i’ button on the Super Meteor 650

The teaser also shows the Guerrilla 450 to have minimal bodywork, almost like a naked roadster. Gone are the windscreen, headlight cowl, and tank braces – the lack of which should considerably reduce the weight of the bike. For reference, the Himalayan weighs 196kg (kerb). Even the seat is a single-piece unit with protruding grab rails for the pillion.

In terms of equipment, the biggest change from the Himalayan are its 17-inch spoke wheels, which are shod with block pattern Ceat Gripp XL tyres. The Guerrilla 450 will be a road-biassed roadster, but with these tyres, it should be comfortable going over rough patches. This one gets a telescopic fork, not the inverted fork, which should further reduce the price. There could also be other tweaks to the chassis to suit its roadster character.

All of these things hint that the new Royal Enfield Guerilla 450 price could be lower than the Triumph Speed 400’s Rs 2,34,497 (ex-showroom, Delhi) price tag. So expect the Guerilla 450 to be priced somewhere between Rs 2.20 lakh and Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom), introductory. Also, Royal Enfield will sell this bike globally, not just in India. This means it will fall in the A2 licence category in Europe, like the Speed 400, and RE will have to price it competitively globally.
