Royal Enfield is all set to launch its trail-friendly offering, the Royal Enfield Scram 411, tomorrow. The motorcycle will, in essence, be a more affordable take on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, built to take on the trails. It could be priced at around Rs 1.95 lakh, undercutting the Himalayan by about Rs 20,000.
Recently spied images show the upcoming motorcycle will be offered in a variety of snazzy colour schemes. Design wise, it will look like the Himalayan, but with a few distinguishing elements. The bike lacks a windscreen and the headlight is mounted on the fork clamp. The semi-digital instrument cluster too seems to be derived from the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and will come with an optional Tripper Navigation pod. Royal Enfield has also equipped the bike with a single-piece seat and the tail rack has been replaced with a simple grab rail.
The motorcycle will carry the Himalayan’s 411cc air-oil-cooled engine, likely in the same tune. In the ADV, it churns out 24.3PS and 32Nm, linked to a 5-speed transmission.
One major difference between the two is that the Scram rolls on smaller 19-inch front wheels wrapped with a fatter tyre compared to the Himalayan’s 21-inch unit up front shod with 90-section rubber. It uses a telescopic fork and a linked rear monoshock, possibly in a different tune.
Summing up, the Royal Enfield Scram 411 will help more enthusiasts get into off-road motorcycling as it will be more accessible than the Himalayan. If you’re looking for alternatives, then the Yezdi Scrambler is the best bet. Other road-biased scramblers in India include the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and the Honda CB350RS. Stay tuned for more updates from the launch event tomorrow!
