This year saw the launch of two new entry-level scramblers in the Indian two-wheeler market. One was the revival of the Yezdi brand with the Yezdi Scrambler and the other was a more affordable alternative of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Royal Enfield Scram 411. Both the bikes fall in the price range of Rs 2.04 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), and here is how they perform against each other.
Acceleration

0-60kmph |
4.14s |
3.67s |
0-80kmph |
6.85s |
6.00s |
0-100kmph |
11.41s |
9.48s |
Although the RE Scram has an advantage when it comes to cubic capacity, the Yezdi’s more advanced liquid-cooled engine (derived from the Mojo) puts out more power. To top it off, it’s lighter too by 11kg. So when it comes to outright acceleration, the Yezdi manages to easily outpace the Royal Enfield. Although this difference isn’t much off the line, in the sprint to 100kmph, the Yezdi is almost two seconds quicker.
Roll On

30-70kmph |
5.69s |
3.67s |
40-80kmph |
7.24s |
6.12s |
The same horsepower and weight advantages that favour the Yezdi when accelerating from a standing start also give it the edge when it comes to roll-on acceleration. Here, the Scram 411 stays behind by about 2 seconds in the 30-70kmph roll-on acceleration test, making it distinctly slower than the Yezdi.
Braking
Royal Enfield Scram 411 |
Yezdi Scrambler |
|
100-0kmph |
51.36m |
46.90m |
80-0kmph |
32.31m |
29.32m |
60-0kmph |
18.07m |
16.42m |
Both the bikes flaunt similar braking hardware, but even then, the Yezdi Scrambler bags the win in the braking test with a significant advantage. The Royal Enfield Himalayan, and by extension the Scram 411, suffers from spongy brakes that lack outright bite. And that makes it stops 5 metres farther than the Yezdi in the 100 - 0kmph braking test.
Fuel Efficiency
Royal Enfield Scram 411 |
Yezdi Scrambler |
|
City mileage |
38.23kmpl |
32.04kmpl |
Highway mileage |
35.11kmpl |
28.95kmpl |
Thanks to having a more relaxed motor compared to the high-strung Yezdi Scrambler, fuel efficiency is one area where the Scram 411 manages a win over the Yezdi by eking out about 5kmpl more in the city and over 6kmpl more on the highway. While Yezdi’s efficiency figures aren’t too bad given the performance on offer, efficiency and range are where the Royal Enfield truly triumphs.
So as we can clearly see, between these two entry-level scramblers, the Yezdi has a distinct performance advantage over the RE Scram 411. But performance is just one aspect to these two motorcycles.
