The veteran bikemaker is working on Scram 440 to rival the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 400 X

Royal Enfield is reportedly working on Scram 440. Internally codenamed D4K, the bike will be a 440cc air-/oil-cooled engine, derived from the Royal Enfield Scram 411. This nomenclature is completely different from the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450’s platform, reportedly codenamed (K1G). This update comes soon after the launch of Triumph Speed 400 and Harley-Davidson X440, which have shaken up things in the Indian auto industry.

Royal Enfield is looking to bridge the gap between its liquid-cooled 450cc platform and the current 411 air-cooled platform, on which the Himlayan is based. So while we can expect a slight bump in output figures as well as the performance as compared to the 411 platform, it will not be substantial enough for it to be a separate product to exist in parallel with the Scram 411, hence expect the upcoming scrambler to replace the 411cc one.

What this will also do is give a more affordable Royal Enfield bike to opt for, making it the perfect middle ground between the affordable-yet-capable 411cc Himalayan and the more powerful, premium Himalayan 450.

The Scram 440 will reportedly be launched within the next 12 months, possibly around mid 2024. Expect Royal Enfield to keep the pricing fairly affordable, possibly at around Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the Scram 411 starts from Rs 2,06,394 (ex-showroom). Apart from the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 440 X, it will also go up against the Yezdi Scrambler, and the Honda CB350RS.
