Triumph recently launched their most affordable single-cylinder bike in India, the Speed T4 starting at a price of Rs 2,17,000. Along with this, Triumph has also updated the Speed 400 with new colours. In this image comparison we will be doing a deep dive into what makes the Triumph Speed T4 different from the Speed 400.

Design And Colours

Both the Speed T4 and the Speed 400 share the same look and design, but the Speed T4 manages to differentiate itself. The bike overall doesn’t look as premium as the Speed 400, as it lacks the gold-finished inverted fork and uses a traditional telescopic fork.  

The Speed T4 features a ‘400’ graphic on the tank and ‘Speed T4’ graphic on the side panel. The bike also features a couple of other changes such as the large stripe on the middle of the tank. The T4 is currently offered in 3 colours: Metallic White, Phantom Black and Cocktail Red Wine.

With the 2025 update, the Speed 400 is now offered in 4 colours: Racing Yellow/Pearl Metallic White, Racing Red/Pearl Metallic White, Pearl Metallic White/Pewter Grey & Phantom Black/Pewter Grey. The colours feature a different layout, and the bottom of the tank gets a grey/white finish depending on the colour scheme. Overall, The Speed T4 feels more youthful while the Speed 400 looks a bit more classy. 

Performance

Both the bikes are powered by the same 398.15cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. But the power output is vastly different. The Speed T4’s engine produces 31PS and 36Nm, whereas the one on the Speed 400 produces 40PS and 37.5Nm. 

Underpinnings

The Speed T4 differs significantly from the Speed 400. The first thing that stands out is the telescopic fork. The Speed 400’s golden inverted fork had made the bike stand out quite a bit, but with the telescopic fork, the T4 has a more subtle look. At the rear, both bikes get a gas-charged monoshock. But the Speed T4 has seen a 10mm reduction in wheel travel when compared to the Speed 400.

Coming to the tyres, the Speed 400 with the MY25 update now comes with Vredestein radial tyres, with a 110-section front and 150-section rear tyre setup. The Speed T4 has a 110-section front and 140-section rear, bias-ply tyres from MRF.

Another difference between the two is in their dimensions, the Speed T4 has a higher seat height of 806mm compared to the Speed 400 MY25’s 803mm. The wheelbase is 1406mm, which is 29mm longer than the Speed 400’s 1386mm. The kerb weight is also higher on the Speed T4, coming at 180kg, compared to the Speed 400 MY25’s 179kg kerb weight.

Features

Both bikes get the same semi-digital instrument console, with a analogue speedometer and a digital inset that displays readouts such as gear position, tachometer readouts, odometer and tripmeter readouts.

The Speed T4 and the Speed 400 get dual-channel ABS, ride-by-wire throttle and a slip-and-assist clutch. But the Speed 400 also has a  switchable traction control system.

Which One Should You Go For?

The Speed T4 comes at a price of Rs 2,17,000 and the Speed 400 MY25 costs Rs 2,40,000, both prices ex-showroom. In terms of performance and features, the Speed 400 MY25 has an advantage over the Speed T4. 

If you are someone who is looking for a 400cc roadster which has good looks, performance and features, and are willing to pay the 23,000 premium over the Speed T4, then the Speed 400 MY25 makes sense.

But if you’re someone who values the premium Triumph experience at an affordable price, and are okay with the reduced performance and features, then the Speed T4 will be the right choice for you.
