Just a few weeks after the Yamaha MT-15 received a major update for the Indian market, Yamaha has now revised the streetfighter for Thailand. However, the updates are just cosmetic.
In terms of appearance the bike retains the muscular and sharp design, offering an aggressive appeal to the naked. What’s new here is the graphics on the grey (significant change) and the blue (minor change) colour variants.
On the grey colour variant, the fuel tank extensions get painted in Toscan Green, with stripes running across the tank in the same colour (similar to the Indian model). Adding on to the changes, the grey variant gets blacked out USDs, rims dipped in Toscan Green instead of the bright red alloys. On the blue colour variant the bike gets rid of the secondary light grey colour and gets an all-blue colour scheme, similar to the model sold in India.
Powering the bike is the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with variable valve actuation (VVA) that gives an output of 18.4PS and 14.1Nm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch.
It comes suspended on the same inverted front fork and a rear monoshock as befor, while the braking hardware on the bike includes discs on both ends. Sadly, ABS has been given a miss on the Thai model while its Indian counterpart gets single-channel ABS.
On the features front, the Thailand-spec MT-15 misses out on the smartphone connected instrument cluster that you get on the India-spec 2022 Yamaha MT-15.
With Just slight cosmetic updates, the 2022 iteration of the bike costs an equivalent of Rs 2.28 lakh (without Indian taxes and duties), which is a heavy asking price for something that is essentially an urban motor. The India-spec model is priced at Rs 1,60,900 (ex-showroom Delhi). It directly rivals the KTM 125 Duke.
