The year 2023 has seen a flurry of new exciting bikes being launched in the 300-400cc segment, starting with the Harley-Davidson X440 and the Triumph Speed 400. And then KTM launched the all-new 390 Duke. And now, during the MotoGP IndianOil Grand Prix of India weekend, Yamaha showcased their upcoming 300cc bikes, the Yamaha MT-03 and the Yamaha R3.
The Yamaha R3 stands as the Japanese manufacturer’s 300cc supersport bike, featuring a 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin cylinder engine that produces 42PS of power and 29.5Nm of torque. It will face competition from rivals like the KTM RC 390 and the Aprilia RS 457, which will be launched very soon. On the other hand, the Yamaha MT-03 shares its engine and core components with the R3 but boasts a slightly higher torque output, edging out by 0.1Nm. The MT-03 is set to compete with recently launched models like the new-gen KTM 390 Duke, Triumph Speed 400, and the TVS Apache RTR 310.
Yamaha had initially showcased the new MT-03 and R3 at a dealer event in April 2023, revealing plans to launch these bikes, along with the R7 and MT-07, in the Indian market. Now with the reemergence of the MT-03 and R3 at the Indian MotoGP event suggests that Yamaha is right on track for their launch by the end of this year.
