After numerous delays, KTM India is finally ready to launch the highly anticipated 2022 RC 390 in India. According to our dealer sources, the flagship Austrian supersport is set to be officially launched in June. Last week, the 2022 RC 390’s price was leaked on the company’s official website, though the page was taken down shortly after.
The India-spec 2022 model gets numerous upgrades over the current generation KTM RC 390. These include a new trellis frame with a fresh bolt-on subframe, 1.7kg lighter five-spoke alloys, a larger 13.7-litre fuel tank and lighter braking hardware. These changes are claimed to make the bike lighter and prime it to offer sharper handling. This bike also comes packed with a new TFT instrument cluster borrowed from its siblings, and upgraded electronics including a quickshifter, cornering ABS and traction control.
Powering the supersport is the familiar 373cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Breathing through a larger airbox, the motor churns out 43.5PS and 37Nm. The new generation RC 390 is expected to be available in two dual tone colours (Blue and Orange; Orange and Black), inspired by the Austrian marque’s MotoGP teams’ liveries. It is highly likely that the India-spec RC 390 will miss out on the adjustable front suspension (as seen on the international model), following a pattern observed with the recently launched 2022 KTM 390 Adventure that also misses out on the same.
The 2022 RC390 will take on the the TVS Apache RR 310, which is cheaper (Rs 2.59 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi) and packs impressive features, but lacks outright performance, along with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 (Rs 3.37 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi), which is much more expensive and doesn’t have modern features, however has a refined parallel twin engine.
