The wait for TVS’ next big reveal is finally over as the marque welcomes the Ronin to its family of motorcycles. However, unlike some of its other sportier models, the Ronin takes a slightly different approach. This neo-retro scrambler-style motorcycle will focus on spirited urban utility over outright performance like say the Apache RTR 200 4V. Let’s have a closer look at the hardware it’s packing to address this “new way of life.”
Design:
To begin with, the Ronin’s scrambler design comes together nicely, especially with an urban backdrop in mind. Its balanced approach with subtle retro elements and modern hardware sure gives it a good first impression.
Headlight:
The first element to catch your eye is this circular headlight, a hallmark of any neo retro bike. But yet again, underneath the retro shell is a modern LED unit with a unique and distinct design. TVS also claims that this new design offers superior luminance.
LED taillight and indicators:
The motorcycle also gets a sleek LED taillight and LED turn indicators that are kind of similar to the ones you find on the BMW G 310s. In fact, the LED taillight is a nod to modern day scramblers.
Instrument cluster:
The Ronin gets a Ducati Scrambler-esque, left-offset instrument pod. This unit is Bluetooth compatible with TVS’ SmartXonnect and will feature voice assistance and turn-by-turn navigation.
Seat:
The single seat on the Ronin is wide for improved comfort under urban riding conditions and the 795mm seat height should help make it pretty approachable to even riders of average height.
Engine:
The heart of the Ronin is a 225.9cc, single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled engine that produces a decent 20.4PS at 7750rpm and 19.93Nm at 3750rpm. This motorcycle focuses on low and mid-range performance given its urban utility.
Mated to a 5-speed gearbox it even gets a slip-and-assist clutch. Will that be enough to support TVS’ go anywhere claims? Well, hold on, as the first ride review will appear on our site in the coming few days.
Suspension:
The coolest treat on this motorcycle is the inclusion of 41mm Showa Big Piston USD fork. Finished in gold, it amps up the premium look and gives it a dash of sportiness too.
Meanwhile, the rear is supported by a gas-charged monoshock.
Brakes:
Braking on the Ronin is managed by 300mm and 240mm disc brakes at the front and back respectively. However…
ABS:
Even though dual channel ABS is standard, you can modulate the intervention as it gets two ABS modes - Urban and Rain..
Tyres:
The Ronin gets 17-inch alloy wheels with a wide 110/70 section tyre at the front and 130/70 section rubber at the rear. They come shod with specially-developed TVS Remora block pattern tyres for that scrambler look.
Verdict:
With prices starting at Rs 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) onwards, the Ronin surely packs very good hardware for the price. Its closest competition is the Honda CB350RS which is priced at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
So, it looks good, packs a ton of features and hardware, and even undercuts the competition by a mile. Worth the wait? Yeah, we think so!
