After multiple delays due to the global semiconductor chip shortage, KTM has finally launched the 2022 iteration of the 390 Adventure. Available in two new eye-catching colors, namely KTM Factory Racing Blue and Dark Galvano Black, this bike comes with some key functional updates that get it closer in line to the larger KTM Adventure series of motorcycles.
What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The 2022 KTM 390 Adventure is priced at Rs 3,34,895 (ex-showroom Delhi). This now results in a Rs 6,452 price hike over the 2021 model. Rivaling this motorcycle are other sub-400cc adventure bikes like the BMW GS310R, Royal Enfield Himalayan, Benelli TRK 251, and the Yezdi Adventure.
What’s New?
Available in only one variant, a long list of electronic features include new Street and Off-Road Traction Control modes, wherein the Off-Road mode allows for a certain degree of rear-wheel slip, thus making it easier to ride the motorcycle in loose or wet terrain. Another update allows for the Off-Road TC to remain activated even if the bike stalls or falls, unlike its predecessor where the default setting would kick in.
It also gets all new five spoke alloy wheels instead of the six spoke wheels from the previous gen, which claims to offer increased stiffness. Along with the two new colors, it comes with refreshed graphics.
What’s Unchanged?
In terms of styling, the 2022 390 Adventure retains the same overall design as its predecessor. It also has the same steel trellis subframe suspended on WP Apex USD forks and adjustable monoshock. Braking duties are shared by Bybre 320mm front and 280mm rear discs with dual-channel switchable ABS. KTM claims a touring range of 400km thanks to the same 14.5 litre tank.
The bike is powered by the same 373cc single cylinder, liquid cooled engine making 43.5 PS and 37 Nm, coupled to a 6 speed gearbox. The electronic package rolled over from the previous gen bike includes lean-angle sensitive ABS and Motorcycle Traction Control.
What Should Have Changed?
With the introduction of the new traction control modes, KTM should’ve tweaked the gearing ratios at least to allow for a further degree of off roading fun.
ZigSays
The 390 Adventure is one of the best sub-400cc adventure motorcycles in the market with top-of-the-line features and segment-first electronics. The new color scheme definitely refreshens the overall look of the bike visually, however, we feel the lack of any drivetrain upgrades might not be a big step up in pursuit of absolute off-road adventure glory. While the new Traction Control modes are a step in the right direction, the question here is, whether this step is good enough. Stay tuned until we find an answer to this soon.
