(Update: KTM has launched the 2024 390 Duke in India at a fantastic price! More about it in our launch story.)

KTM has FINALLY unveiled the much anticipated 2024 390 Duke, 250 Duke and the 125 Duke and we’ve one word for them: INCREDIBLE! Why? For starters, they way they look! With their updated headlights and much sharper tank extensions, KTM has made an already aggressive bike look even better. While the 390 Duke looks straight from the year 2033, such a design on a 125cc bike does look like a bit of an overkill.

As for the updates the 390 Duke gets, here’s a comprehensive list of the same:

  • Bigger 399cc Euro 5.2-ready liquid-cooled engine that KTM claims has more power and is smoother — It also features an improved gearbox, larger airbox and an optimized cylinder head. With a bore and stroke of 89mm and 64mm respectively, the stroke is 4mm more than the current-gen Duke. That's same as the Triumph Speed 400!
  • It makes 44.86PS, 39Nm as opposed to the current-gen's 43.5PS and 37Nm. Oh, more importantly, the engine gets multiple ride modes (Street, Rain and Track), along with segment-first launch control. Truly a hooligan! The engine works alongside a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.
  • It's built on a new steel trellis frame with a pressure die-cast aluminium subframe, and a curved cast aluminium swingarm.
  • 43mm WP Apex open cartridge fork with compression and rebound adjustability (150mm travel) | WP Apex separate piston offset monoshock with five-step rebound adjustability, and is preload adjustable as well (150mm wheel travel). And more importantly, the adjustable suspension will be making its way to India too!
  • Lighter alloys and rotors, just like the current-gen KTM RC 390. Gets a 320mm (front with radial caliper) and 240mm (rear) disc brakes with cornering ABS with supermoto mode.
  • International model gets Michelin radial tyres whereas the India-spec one might get Apollo units.
  • Weighs 165kg (without fuel). For perspective, the current-gen UK-spec 390 Duke tips the scale at 150kg (dry).
  • Updated 5-inch TFT with Bluetooth connectivity - music control, incoming calls alerts and turn-by-turn navigation. Also gets updated switchgear with new 4-way menu switches on the left handlebar. It even gets cruise control!
  • Wheelbase is slightly longer, gets a new seat with a thicker foam and a narrower profile. Stock seat is 820mm, a 800mm seat is available as an option. Gets new, light weight forged aluminum footpegs too.
  • Notable Powerparts include a top case, flyscreen, mirrors, crash bobbins, among others.

As for the 250 Duke and the 125 Duke, they obviously get the same styling and being based on the same platform, they also get the revised chassis (including subframe, and swingarm). That said, here are the differences in the output figures and suspension:

Specifications

2024 KTM 250 Duke

2024 KTM 125 Duke

Power and torque

31.27PS, 25Nm (30PS, 24Nm in the India-spec version)

14.95PS, 11.5Nm (Same power but 12Nm in the 2023 UK-spec version, India-spec current-gen model makes 14.5PS, 12Nm)

Front suspension

43mm WP Apex Big Piston fork with 150mm travel, no adjustability

43mm WP Apex Open Cartridge fork with 150mm travel, no adjustability

Rear suspension

Offset WP Apex emulsion monoshock with 150mm wheel travel, preload adjustable

Offset WP Separate Piston monoshock with 150mm wheel travel, preload adjustable

Interestingly, as per the official website, both the 2024 KTM 125 Duke and 250 Duke come with the same alloys and brakes as the 2024 390 Duke, complete with cornering ABS, along with Supermoto mode. Again, overkill, if you ask us. The India-spec 250 Duke, meanwhile, will get Vredestein Centauro tyres. All three models now also get self-cancelling indicators.

Oddly enough, as per the official website, the 2024 250 Duke features a 5-inch LCD console, as opposed to the TFT unit in the current-gen model. However, the 2024 KTM 125 Duke gets the same console as the 2024 390 Duke. The 250 and 125 Duke also get smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and call/ music controls as standard.

All this will not come cheap though. KTM could bump up the ex-showroom price of the 390 Duke by up to Rs 35,000, or around Rs 3.30 lakh. As for the new 125 Duke and the 250 Duke, they could cost Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.60 lakh (all ex-showroom) respectively. The 2024 390 Duke and 250 Duke are likely to be launched next month whereas the 125 Duke will enter our shores about a year or so later.

And if that’s left you wondering about 2023 200 Duke, we expect it to be launched in India about a year later. Last time around, too, KTM unveiled it nearly a year after the updated 250 and 390. So if you want the 200 Duke, you can buy the current-gen model for now, which recently got an LED headlight for a minor hike in price.

All in all, KTM has made substantial changes to the 2024 Duke range, that too at the right areas, making them even more desirable than before. With these updates, the updated Duke range are by far the most feature-loaded, performance-packed naked bikes in the segment. Alternatives will include the Triumph Speed 400QJ Motor SRK 400BMW G 310 RBajaj Dominar 400 and the upcoming TVS Apache RTR 310.
