Key upgrades make the highly successful luxury SUV better than ever

Porsche introduced the Cayenne way back in 2002 and in 2010 launched the second generation car, both to high levels of success, selling over half a million units globally. In India, the top of the line luxury SUV also found its set of takers despite a high sticker price. While the Macan is taking the limelight, Porsche India hasn’t forgotten its big brother though. The 2015 Cayenne that sports a host of upgrades will be launched soon.

The 2015 Cayenne gets updated front and rear styling. Everything from the bonnet to the fenders to the front bumper is all new and there are a bunch of aero bits as well to direct air into the intercoolers and around the SUV. All models besides the Cayenne Turbo get Bi-Xenon headlamps, the latter getting an all-LED unit. A new tail with new taillights and exhaust pipes complete the exterior upgrade. On the inside, the Cayenne is sportier, gets better rear seats and air conditioning.

There is no entry level model now on. The range starts with the Cayenne Diesel and is followed by the Cayenne S. There’s also the Cayenne S E-Hybrid and the top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo. A top spec performance oriented Cayenne GTS is also part of the lineup. We will have to see if all variants come to India, especially the Hybrid. The Diesel model uses the same 243PS 3.0-litre turbo diesel. The Cayenne S gets the 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 similar to the one in the Macan Turbo – 426PS, 20PS more than the Macan but the same 550Nm of torque. It can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 5.2 seconds.

But for those looking for a lot more poke, the Cayenne turbo is more up your alley. The 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 pumps out 527PS of power! Consider this – a large SUV doing a 0-100kmph time in 4.1 seconds… It’s a tarmac eater. There is no Turbo S just yet but if and when it comes, expect excess of 570PS from it.
