The luxury car market saw a lot of movement in 2015, right from the Mercedes-Maybach S600 to some luxury SUVs like the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Volvo XC90. Here’s the list of nominees for the Luxury Car of the Year Award in the Times Auto 2015 in Partnership with ZigWheels
Luxury Car of the Year ZigWheels 2015

Land Rover Discovery Sport: Replacing the Freelander 2, Land Rover brought in the Discovery Sport last year. With this new offering, they have not only managed to retain its DNA but at the same time make it the most affordable Land Rover ever. Despite that, there have been no compromises in terms of quality or equipment. Land Rover offers the Discovery Sport with a 5 seater as well as a 5+2 option, although the former is the more practical one.

Volvo XC90: With its new generation of cars, Volvo is set to take the game forward. Its popular luxury SUV, the XC90 was the first step in that direction. The XC90 looks good, has a long list of features and drives pretty well too. Not to forget, it cut throat pricing. All things considered, the Volvo XC90 is phenomenal value for money for someone looking to buy a luxury SUV.

Mercedes-Benz GLE: As a replacement to the aging ML-Class, Mercedes-Benz brought in the GLE last year and it has proven to be as capable as its predecessor. It has a good engine and gearbox combination with loads of space covering the practicality aspect as well. When pitched against rivals like the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5, it has been competitively well too.

Maserati Ghibli: Maserati officially re-entered the Indian market last year with the launch of the the Ghibli, along with the rest of its range. If it is exclusivity you seek, clubbed with style, Maserati has just the thing for you in the form of the Ghibli. While it can be fairly fast when you want it, the Ghibli is the car you want if you want to arrive in style.

BMW X6

BMW X6: With the first generation X6, the designers at BMW tried to be creative. They merged the bulk of an SUV and the lines of a coupe to make what BMW calls a ‘Sport Activity Coupe’. And it worked for them too. Last year, they brought in a refreshed version of the X6. Looks aside, with the kind of features it comes with, engine, handling and of course the looks, the X6 is quite an evolution from its predecessor.

Mercedes-Maybach S600: Mercedes-Benz gave luxury a new benchmark when they launched the S-Class. Last year, they upped the ante with by re-introducing the Maybach brand with the S600. It is craftsmanship at its best, as it pampers you, caresseses you and sets you apart from your business rival.
