As mentioned earlier, you can now buy the Land Rover Discovery with two engine options which are coupled to a single transmission option. The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine churns out 258PS of power at 3750rpm and 600Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Meanwhile, the 3.0-litre supercharged petrol powertrain produces 340PS of power at 6500rpm and 450Nm of peak torque between 3500 and 5000rpm. An all-rounder

The new Land Rover Discovery now utilizes a monocoque chassis, which unlike the ladder-frame chassis of its predecessor is lighter, more spacious and more comfortable both off- and on-road. Speaking of off-roading, the Discovery doesn’t shy away from its SUV pedigree -- it has a ground clearance of 283mm with a water-wading depth of 900mm, Terrain Response system 2.0, hill descent control, hill start assist, off-road ABS and off-road cruise control as well. It is also now offered with a low range transfer box as standard (except on the 3.0-litre TD6 Diesel S Variant).

All the bells and whistles

Land Rover has always been a trailblazer when it comes to electronic wizardry. Following on that tradition, the Discovery packs features like electronic air suspension, rain-sensing wipers, power folding ORVMs with heating, puddle lamps, a panoramic sunroof. The Discovery also features LED headlights with DRLs and high-beam assist, a heated headlight power washer. It has also employed 19-21 inch alloy wheels, 5 or 7 seater option which are heated or cooled. The front seats are now 16-way electrically adjustable. In addition to all this the new car also comes with lane-keeping assist, 360-degree camera display, park assist, auto-dimming frameless IRVM.  On the inside the mood lighting setting, 4-zone climate control, and either a 6-,10- or 14-speaker surround sound system add more to the package.

Optional features include active rear locking differential, roof rails, fixed full-length panoramic sunroof, adaptive LED headlights, and heads-up display, etc.

Competition

The Land Rover Discovery will face some serious competition from the likes of the BMW X5 (Rs 67.90 lakh to Rs 75.30 lakh), Audi Q7 (Rs 70.12 lakh to Rs 77.84 lakh), Volvo XC90 (Rs 71.97 lakh to Rs 1.28 crore), Mercedes-Benz GLS (Rs 79.86 lakh to Rs 1.83 crore) and the Toyota Land Cruiser (Rs 1.28 crore). How it will fare against its competition is a question only time can answer.
