The car you see in the picture above is the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which has been spotted sans camo for the first time. The flagship sedan from Mercedes has got a complete design overhaul, both inside and out. We expect it to be offered with petrol, diesel, and even a hybrid powertrain option.
The design of the 2021 S-Class is now sleeker and modern. The front-end comes with a large chrome grille, flanked by sleek LED headlamps. It also comes with a redesigned bumper with the tri-star ornament placed on the hood. The rear-end now features split LED tail lamps connected by a chrome strip.
Though the exterior looks a tad familiar, the interior design is brand new. A portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system replaces the cluster of buttons and a swivel wheel on the central console. Then there’s the new digital driver’s instrument display, which sits on top of the steering column and the sleek new 3-spoke steering wheel. The rear seat occupants are also pampered with a touchscreen unit between the armrest for controlling various functions of the car.
In terms of features, the S-Class is expected to come with Mercedes’ latest version of the MBUX system, powered front seats with heated and ventilation function, ambient lighting, premium sound system, panoramic sunroof, air suspension, and drive modes. On the safety front, it could come with nine airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and a host driver assistance system.
Mercedes-Benz is yet to reveal the powertrain options of the 2021 S-Class. That said, we expect it to come with a set of petrol and diesel engines. Mercedes is also likely to offer it with a cleaner hybrid powertrain. The AMG version could retain the ballistic twin-turbo V8 motor.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is expected to be globally unveiled by the end of 2020 and reach India by the second half of 2021. Its prices could start above the Rs 1-crore mark (ex-showroom). The S-Class will lock horns with the Audi A8L and the BMW 7 Series.
