Leaked images from the factory floor had confirmed our suspicions regarding the new RC’s look.
Mechanically, most of the bike appears to be the same, except the brakes.
Expect it to carry a price tag of around Rs 2.15 lakh.
After not fiddling around with the design for what seems like an eternity, KTM is preparing for a major design overhaul for its small-capacity supersport bikes. The first signs of this change were spotted in Pierer AG’s documents, subsequently followed up with leaked images from the factory floor. This time around, a test mule of the 2021 RC 200 has been spotted with this new look.
As much as we have longed to see something new on the RC bikes, this new look is rather polarising. It isn’t managing to make quite the impression yet, something the 390 Duke did in 2017, making it seem like a scaled-down 1290 Super Duke R. It seems as though for the new RC, KTM designers just slapped on a fairing onto the naked bike. Hence, you can spot the same LED DRL flanking halogen headlamp on the new RC. Even the mirror-mounted turn blinkers have been integrated into the front fascia, giving it a rather flared face.
Lastly, even though the images depict a large console, it isn’t likely to feature the 390 Duke/Adventure’s colour-TFT dash. What KTM might do is fit the new RC 200 with the same console from the 250 Adventure, which is a nicer looking LCD digital unit.
The bolted-on trellis subframe is a welcome addition to the 2021 RC series. The LED tail lamp and indicators seem to be the same as before but there’s no race cowl-shaped pillion seat. Instead, it gets a rather conventional flat seat with proper split grab handles. While the previous seat looked rather spectacular, the new one should be a bit more convenient (and hopefully a bit more comfortable) for all.
The main trellis frame and the 199cc single-cylinder mill with its underbelly exhaust continue to ply their trade here on the 2021 RC 200. It should continue to dish out 25PS and 19Nm. No changes are expected to the suspension but from the visuals, we can confirm the new RC is running a new set of wheels and a lighter front disc. The five-spoke alloy wheel design, finished in Electric Orange, looks rather smashing and is sure to improve the unsprung mass of the bike.
This updated RC 200 is likely to hit the showrooms by mid-2021. Prices could start from Rs 2.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it around Rs 10,000 dearer in the process.
