BMW Motorrad India is expected to roll out its BS6 products by August-end or early-September 2020
  • The BS4 G 310 R retails at Rs 2.99 lakh while the G 310 GS costs Rs 3.49 lakh.
  • Both bikes use a 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine.
  • The engine could receive all the updates that the 2020 Apache RR 310 has got.
  • Our sources suggest that the upcoming BS6 BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS are expected to be launched by August-end or early-September 2020. But that isn’t the highlight of the story. We have just learnt that the Bavarian twins may come with a heavy price cut of around Rs 75,000. And if this is true, you are looking at a price of around 2.4 lakh (ex-showroom) for the G 310 R if you consider its on-road price which is around Rs 3.34 lakh. Same goes for the GS, which may retail at around 2.90 lakh (ex-showroom) post the discount.

That’s a fair price to pay for a premium roadster and an adventure tourer. The move would certainly help the German brand to reel in more numbers by targeting enthusiasts on a budget. Heck, this will put the duo squarely up against their arch-rivals, the KTM 390 Duke and 390 Adventure.

Both the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS will also run cleaner thanks to their updated BS6-compliant engine. But we believe the Bavaria brand may borrow the updates from the updated BS6 Apache RR 310. TVS did a fantastic job by tweaking the engine to reduce vibrations to a great extent, an issue that plagued the bike right from its inception. Moreover, the brand managed to do so without hampering the performance of the bike. And if our hunch is right, the 312cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine will continue to put out the same power and torque as before -- 34PS of power and 28Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission. In fact, it may even come with a slipper clutch as standard.

Mechanically, both the bikes will retain the same underpinnings, an upside-down fork, a monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends paired with dual-channel ABS. The setup on the G 310 GS is suited for both road and off-road use.

BMW dealerships had introduced huge discounts on both the bikes to try and get rid of the last remaining BS4 units.
