Ford India has confirmed that the Mustang Mach-E Electric SUV will be  brought to India. The news comes in the aftermath of Ford ceasing production of its mass market cars in India, after years of sustaining losses. The Mustang Mach-E SUV will be one of the marquee products that Ford will now sell in India.

The Mustang Mach-E SUV is a recently launched EV from Ford, that borrows design cues from the legendary Mustang coupe. Ford offers two battery pack options (68kWh and 88kWh) and four variant options in the US: Select, California Route 1, Premium and GT.

The Select variant can only be had with the smaller 68kWh battery pack, although you can pick between RWD (one motor on rear axle) and AWD setups (one motor on each axle). Both make 266PS, although the RWD version makes do with only 430Nm of torque, whereas the AWD version can put out 580Nm.

The California Route 1 can only be had with the larger 88kWh battery pack, and in a RWD configuration. Horsepower gets upped to 290PS, although the torque remains the same at 430Nm.

The Premium variant can be had in all the above listed configurations. Additionally, it also gets a 346PS/580Nm AWD version paired with the 88kWh battery pack.

The top-spec GT edition (AWD only) can only be had with the larger 88kWh battery pack, and is tuned to make 480PS/813Nm. Ford also offers a performance edition of this variant, in which the torque gets upped to 860Nm.

The 66kWh battery pack paired to a RWD setup offers 370km of estimated range. That number drops to 340km in the AWD configuration. The larger 88kWh battery pack in a RWD configuration can do between 480 km and 490km. In an AWD configuration, that number drops to around 435km. Lastly, the GT Performance Edition has an estimated range of 418km.

The Mustang Mach-E SUV supports AC charging as well as DC charging up to 150kW. The former can take anywhere between 10 and 15 hours for a full charge. The latter can top up the batteries from 0 to 80 percent in under an hour.

On the features front, the Mustang Mach-E SUV sports all the regular novelties we expect in cars today. The standout features include a vertically oriented 15.5-inch touchscreen that uses Ford’s latest SYNC 4A software. You get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, however, what stands out about this setup is a physical volume knob that’s placed inside the touchscreen. The driver instrument cluster is also a 10.2-inch digital setup. A 360 degree camera is also available with a washer setup for the front camera. The front seats are both power adjustable and you also get a panoramic sunroof.

As far as safety is concerned, the Mustang Mach-E gets 8 airbags. You also get active safety features like Auto Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, High Beam Assist and more.

While Ford has confirmed that the Mustang Mach-E SUV is coming to India, it hasn’t specified a timeline for it. However, we expect this electric Ford to be launched in India in early 2022. As far as prices are concerned, the Mustang Mach-E SUV will be a direct import (CBU) and as such, will cost double of what it does in the US. That is why the Mustang Mach-E is expected to cost anywhere between Rs 60 lakh and Rs 90 lakh, depending on which variant Ford brings to India.
