Kawasaki has confirmed the launch of its 'important for 2017 models' on March 25. Kawasaki has not officially disclosed the names of the motorcycles it will be launching this week, but we know that the all-new Z900 will be launched for sure. Kawasaki India has a knack for springing up surprises at its launch events and it is possible that we might see the new generation Ninja 650 and the Z650 get launched alongside the Z900.
The Z650 essentially replaces the ER-6n in Kawasaki's line-up, and notably, all three motorcycles in question are new generation machines that replace their ageing predecessors.
Kawasaki Z900 -
The Z900 is set to replace Kawasaki's popular Z800. The capacity hike is in keeping with the new trend of Streetfighter segment moving to the 900cc displacement mark. The Z900 has sharper lines and looks similar to the Z1000 now. It features a new trellis frame and is lighter than the Z800 by 20 kilos. The new 948cc, in-line four motor is a downsized version of the Z1000's 1043cc motor. It makes 125PS and 98.9Nm of torque. The gear ratios have been revised for a better mid range and top end and there is a new chain set to reduce drive losses.
The Z900 gets 41mm upside down forks and a horizontally mounted rear monoshock that gets preload and rebound adjustment. Braking is via dual 300 mm disc brakes upfront with four-piston Nissin callipers and a 250 mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper. Moreover, ABS is standard.
Being a completely new model, the Z900 is expected to cost a lakh more than the Z800.
Kawasaki Z650 -
The Z650 now comes with a sharper styling and in a lithe form with a new frame that promises better handling and helps reduce weight. The Z650 is a whopping 19 kilos lighter than the ER-6n. The Z650 comes with the same 650cc parallel twin motor that owing to Euro-IV emission norms sees a 4PS drop and now makes 68PS. The mid-range is said to have improved though. Ergonomics are better, thanks to a lower 790mm seat height. ABS is standard now and the new Z650 also benefits from a slipper clutch. The Z650 is expected to be priced around Rs 50-80 thousand more than the outgoing ER-6n.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 -
The new Ninja 650 was first unveiled at last year's INTERMOT motorcycle show. The new bike has a racier design with a sharper fairing and headlamps that now look similar to the Ninja ZX-10R. The new tail section is shorter now. The new bikes also get split seats instead of a single piece unit and the seat is now lower at 790mm with a narrower front. The bike features a new trellis frame that is more rigid and helps reduce the weight which has dropped by 15 kilos. The Ninja gets the same 650cc parallel twin motor as the Z650 with a reduced 68PS output but with better mid-range. The new Ninja 650 gets three colours - Metallic Spark Black, Blizzard Pearl White and Candy Burnt Orange. The 2017 Ninja 650 is expected to be priced around Rs 50-80 thousand more than the outgoing bike.
