British SUV manufacturer Land Rover has launched the petrol version of its latest SUV, the Discovery Sport. The car is priced at Rs 56.50 Lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and comes in as one of the after effects of the Delhi diesel ban. The petrol car is powered by a 2.0-litre motor, unlike the 2.2-litre diesel motor (which falls in the debarred category). However, the petrol version is only available in HSE trim level.

Rohit Suri, president, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd, commented on the launch, "We are excited to introduce the petrol derivative of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. This will help us broaden the appeal of this fabulous premium versatile SUV for customers who are more inclined towards driving a vehicle with a powerful petrol engine at its heart along with Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability and reliability – a perfect combination of performance, capability and composure. ”

The 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder motor produces 240PS of power and 340Nm of torque. The same motor is available in the Jaguar XE as well, though the XE uses an 8-speed transmission while the Discovery Sport gets a more advanced 9-speed one.

In terms of features, the Discovery sports “All Terrain Capability”, synonymous with Land Rover, which distinguishes it from its competitors. It is also the only car in its segment to feature 5+2 seating. Moreover, it boasts of a commanding driving position, adaptive xenon headlamps, panoramic sunroof, multiple USB charging points, etc.

The chief competitors of the Discovery Sport include the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Porsche Macan.
